Platini Rejects Divorce Agreement with His Wife. Platini Nemeye, a renowned artist and songwriter popularly known as Platini, has publicly stated that he has not agreed to a permanent divorce with his wife, Olivia Ingabire.

Denial of Divorce Rumors

On Friday, June 28, 2024, Platini took to his Instagram account to deny rumors suggesting that he and his wife had agreed to divorce. He called these reports baseless rumors.

Continuing Career Despite Challenges

Platini, formerly a member of the Dream Boys group and now pursuing a solo music career, emphasized that despite the ongoing situation, nothing would stop him from progressing. However, he mentioned the need for a break.

Legal Framework for Divorce

According to Article 194 of Law No. 32/2016 of August 28, 2016, governing persons and family in Rwanda, a petition for irrevocable annulment of marriage can be filed by one of the spouses or any other interested party. Article 195 states that a marriage annulled irrevocably is considered never to have existed from the day the marriage contract was signed. However, annulment does not affect the rights of children born within that marriage, and the court decides on their custody similarly to divorce cases.

Details of the Case

Speculation arose when copies of the court case surfaced, showing that Platini filed a petition at the Nyamata Primary Court on January 11, 2024, which was received on January 15, 2024. The Nyamata Primary Court has jurisdiction over the case based on Article 219 of Law No. 32/2016 since Platini and Ingabire last resided in Kanzenze, Ntarama Sector, Bugesera District, which falls under this court's jurisdiction.

Property Agreement

Additionally, the house located on plot UPI 5/07/09/02/3879 in Karugenge Village, Kanzenze Cell, Ntarama Sector, Bugesera District, Eastern Province, became Platini's property as agreed. Both parties also agreed that no compensation would be provided in this case, as they reached an agreement based on their signed separation contract.

Court Proceedings

On Thursday, June 27, 2024, both parties began substantive court hearings. A lawyer informed InyaRwanda, the news source for this article, that when parties start substantive hearings, the court requires both to confirm their divorce agreement before the court, after which the court will take time to issue a final decision.

Representation by a Single Lawyer

The court documents indicate that both Platini and Ingabire were represented by the same lawyer, Habakurama Francois Xavier. Another lawyer mentioned that having a single lawyer indicates mutual agreement on the divorce, hence the shared legal representation. Usually, in contentious divorces, each party has separate legal representation.

Increasing Divorce Rates

Statistics from the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda show that in 2019, the number of divorces reached 8,941, up from 1,331 in 2018, indicating a 6.8-fold increase in just one year. Furthermore, the Rwanda Judiciary's report for the year 2022/2023 revealed that Rwandan courts confirmed 3,075 divorces for legally married couples.

Rwandans living in foreign countries without national ID cards or passports will now be able to apply and get the identity documents from embassies, according to the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration (DGIE).

Announcing the new development on Friday, June 28, the DGIE said that a system that allows Rwandans abroad to apply and acquire national ID cards and e-passports had been developed in collaboration with the National Identification Agency (NIDA) and Irembo, the web portal for government services.

'This was implemented to facilitate the Rwandan community abroad without national ID cards,' the DGIE said.

'The biometric data will be captured from the nearest embassy and be used for the processing of both National ID and e-Passport.'

Before the newly announced development, an applicant's biometric data was collected from the embassy and sent to the DGIE in Rwanda, which then had to mail the identity document to the embassy for distribution.

Paul Kagame, the presidential candidate of the RPF-led collation, on June 28, told Rusizi residents that the country's young people have a double responsibility of building the country — basing on the foundation of what has been achieved so far — as well as protecting it.

At Rusizi Stadium, thousands of residents in Rusizi District and neighbouring areas of Nyamasheke District cheerfully danced to different electoral campaign songs. Kagame was welcomed by Abasaamyi dance troop from Nkombo island.

In the presidential and parliamentary elections set for July 14-15, Kagame is competing with former lawmaker Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda, and Philippe Mpayimana, an independent candidate.

In his address, the incumbent President said that Rwanda has come from far following the devastating 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, but the RPF brought unity among all Rwandans and all political parties.

But there is still so much more to be achieved ahead, he acknowledged, noting that the country is relying on the youth's efforts in the journey of development.

'Young people, our children, you should reflect back and know where Rwanda came from, and where it is now. You have a double responsibility to continue building on what has been achieved, faster, but also protecting the country against whatever that seeks to destroy it.'

Additionally, he requested the youth to build unity, development and democracy that allows Rwandans to choose who they want and what they want, noting that it is upon the RPF, its leader, and the people to do it.

Come election day, Kagame said that he knows the people will make the right choice and show their support as they have done during previous elections.

Jean Paul Ndamwemera, a businessman in Rusizi District, shared a testimony of how he was able to study and turn a family business of cultivating coffee into a more lucrative venture that scaled up to have greater socio-economic impact in the area.

 

Thanks to the RPF's visionary leadership and security that has empowered the people, Ndamwemera and some partners built a school that now educates 250 students in the district. Ndamwemera now exports coffee to France, Italy, and UK.

His coffee won second place in an international competition, he said.

Under the RPF manifesto for the five-year presidential term, Rusizi District is among the three districts that will receive three ports on Lake Kivu in addition to Karongi and Rutsiro districts. Once completed, Rusizi Port is expected to accommodate 2.3 million passengers and handle 1.3 million tons of cargo, annually.

Other area development targets include construction and rehabilitation of 1, 091-kilometer roads and 1,626-kilometer feeder roads across the country, advance technology adoption, especially enhancing the use of Artificial Intelligence.

The ruling party also aims to continue positioning Rwanda as an investment destination and financial hub, increase tourism revenue to $1.1 billion in 2029 from $620 million in 2024, spur mineral revenue growth to $1.8 billion in 2029 from $1.1 billion in 2023, as well as improve green financing.

Dr Frank yagize ati 'Impamvu twatinze kugera hano ni uko twageze mu nzira tukayoba hanyuma twayoboza bakatubwira ko twari twageze kure twongera gukora urundi rugendo rurerure kandi n'imihanda yatugoye cyane ntabwo ikoze.

Akomeza ati “Nabajije impamvu uyu muhanda udakorwa, bambwiye ko biri muri gahunda ariko bitari byajya mu Ngengo y'Imari ibintu bishobora gutwara  imyaka 10 bitari byajya mu buryo. Ijambo ryacu nka Green Party rirarema. Icyo tuvuze cyose kijya mu bikorwa.'

Yahise ashishikariza abaturage bo muri uyu Murenge wa Musha kuzamutora hanyuma mu kwezi kwa Nzeri bakazamubaza umuhanda wa Kaburimbo. Ati 'Icyo tubasaba ni kimwe gusa, ni ukuzadutora ku itariki 15 Nyakanga hanyuma mu kwezi kwa Nzeri muzaba mwamaze kubona imihanda myiza ya kaburimbo.'

The ruling Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF-Inkotanyi) has unveiled an ambitious plan to significantly expand the national aviation industry, including doubling the number of passengers transported by the national carrier, RwandAir, and enhancing its cargo transport capabilities within the next five years.

The announcement is part of the RPF's five-year political programme, which the party aims to implement if re-elected during the general elections slated for July 14-16.

Fleet and Destinations

Currently, RwandAir operates a fleet of 13 aircraft, including three Airbus A330s, seven Boeing 737s, two Bombardier CRJ900s, and two De Havilland Canada Dash 8-Q400s. The airline serves nearly 30 destinations across East, Central, West, and Southern Africa, as well as the Middle East, Europe, and Asia.

Infrastructure Developments

The RPF manifesto outlines plans to promote green transport in cooperation with the private sector. Key infrastructure projects include completing the construction of a new international airport in Bugesera District and expanding and repairing the Musanze and Rubavu airports.

CEO's Vision

Yvonne Makolo, CEO of RwandAir, emphasized the importance of expanding destinations for business connectivity and trade enhancement. 'As a landlocked nation, we recognize the importance of air freight in Rwanda's economic growth across Africa and beyond. Our geographic location at the heart of Africa enables us to connect every part of the continent, and we eagerly anticipate expanding this connectivity even further,' she said.

Cargo Operations

RwandAir also plans to improve its cargo transport services using dedicated cargo planes. 'Cargo is really a key growth area for us, and throughout the pandemic, it was the one revenue stream that was growing year-on-year,' Makolo stated.

Customer Experience

RwandAir is enhancing customer experience through partnerships with other airlines, allowing passengers to earn and redeem points across reciprocal route networks and access airport lounges at hubs in Doha and Kigali.

Educational Initiatives

The RPF's manifesto includes the establishment of the Centre of Excellence for Aviation Skills (CEAS), a model school to teach piloting and airport management skills. This initiative aims to build local capacity and empower the labor force in the aviation industry in the region and beyond.

Inauguration of RCATIC

Earlier this month, the Rwanda Civil Aviation Training and Innovation Centre (RCATIC) was inaugurated, marking a significant advancement for the country's aviation sector. Andrew Mutabaruka, a quality assurance officer at RCATIC, stated that the new training facility aims to address the shortage of aviation professionals and reduce the high costs of training.

'This school will increase the number of aviation professionals nationally and help close gaps globally, especially in Africa, where the aviation industry is still growing,' Mutabaruka said.

The RPF's comprehensive aviation expansion plan is expected to propel Rwanda's aviation industry to new heights, fostering economic growth and enhancing connectivity across the continent and beyond.
