    SpaceX and Tesla’s odd-ball boss Elon Musk said that he nor his family will take the

     Coronavirus vaccine on the New York Times’ “Sway” opinion podcast, the New York Post

     reports.

    “I’m not at risk, neither are my kids,” the eccentric entrepreneur, who is not a stranger to

     making controversial statements, said to host Kara Swisher on Monday’s edition of the 

    podcast.

    Musk also bashed the United Kingdom’s nationwide lockdown measures as a “no-win 

    situation” amid soaring virus cases in the U.K., adding that it has “diminished my faith 

    in humanity.”

    He then suggested that, as a more targeted alternative, “anyone who is at risk” should be

     “quarantined until the storm passes.” This earned him a swift rebuke from Swisher, with 

    her citing the number of lives that could potentially be lost if such a limited lockdown were

     implemented.

    “Everybody dies,” he remarked.

    The 49-year-old billionaire has made similar comments regarding the pandemic in the past. 

    He has previously called the lockdowns of various countries, especially the U.S.’s, 

    “unethical” and “de facto house arrest,” RT reports.

    While on the podcast, Musk took the time to point out that his commercial space company 

    SpaceX “didn’t skip a day” throughout the pandemic’s duration in order to highlight how, 

    in his mind, the quarantines were illogical. He further justified continuing to run SpaceX, 

    saying, “We had national security clearance because we were doing national security work,”

     and that, “We sent astronauts to the Space Station and back.”

    During the latter part of the podcast, Musk stirred even more controversy by calling

     Bill Gates a “knucklehead.” This follows the Microsoft founder’s previous criticism 

    of Musk’s skepticism toward the virus.

    “Gates said something about me not knowing what I was doing,” the Boring Company 

    chief told Swisher. Then, in reference to Tesla manufacturing equipment for the German 

    biopharmaceutical firm CureVac, he added, “It’s like, ‘Hey, knucklehead, we actually 

    make the vaccine machines for CureVac, that company you’re invested in.’”

    This is in response to a specific CNBC interview in July that Gates participated in. 

    In the aforementioned interview, Gates said he hoped that Musk “doesn’t confuse

     areas he’s not involved with” following his claim that the Tesla CEO had very little 

    knowledge about vaccines.

    As the global death toll from the Coronavirus surpasses 1 million, according to

     Johns Hopkins University, it is still uncertain when there will be a working vaccine. 

    Most experts estimate that a vaccine will likely become widely available by mid-2021,

     the BBC recently reported. Scientists are aiming to develop a vaccine within the span 

    of a few months, while vaccines tend to take years—even decades—to develop, 

    according to the same article.

  • FDA suspends Unibrol drugs in Rwanda #rwanda #RwOT

    A statement from the FDA said, 'There are pills that have changed color, so full investigation must take place to know its cause so that it will not harm the users.'

    'We found these medicines with an issue of changing color for some tablets of the same blister; some tablets have yellow color while others have white color. It is in that regard that the following batches are called for quarantine while the Authority is conducting further investigation,' reads the announcement.

    The drugs are Unibrol / Aminosidine Sulphate USP 250mg, number 5806898, manufactured in September 2019, will expire in August 2022. Another is Unibrol/Aminosidine Sulphate USP 250mg with number 5806675, made in June 2019, and will expire on May 2022.

    Both drugs were manufactured by UNIVERSAL Corporation Ltd, based in Kenya. The FDA has asked everyone affected by the decision, as well as Rwandans in general, to stop using the above-mentioned drugs.

    'Rwanda FDA instructs all importers, central medical stores, wholesalers, district pharmacies, retailers, public and private health facilities in possession of the mentioned drugs to stop distributing and giving the patients until the investigation is concluded,' the announcement adds.

  • Kagame Attends UN Meeting On Development Financing in Era Of Covid-19 #rwanda #RwOT

    President Paul Kagame of Rwanda on Tuesday joined his counterparts in the virtual UN meeting for financing the 2030 global agenda for sustainable development in covid-19 era. This meeting was convened by Canada, Jamaica and the United Nations.

    According to UN, the COVID-19 pandemic and the social and economic crisis it triggered has not only caused immeasurable suffering in the past six months but could also derail five years of global efforts to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

    The pandemic is expected to drive between 71 and 100 million people into extreme poverty, the first such increase since 1998. With progress on SDG 2 (zero hunger) already backsliding before the onset of COVID-19, an estimated additional 270 million people could face acute food shortages by the end of 2020.

    Canada, Jamaica and the Secretary-General convened a High-Level Event to join forces with Heads of State and Government, international organizations, and other key partners to enable discussions of concrete financing solutions to the COVID-19 health and development emergency for everyone.

    The sustainable Development Goals are the world's yardstick for much needed progress on Human development.

    I therefore commend the Prime Ministers of Canada and Jamaica, along with the secretary General. Thanks for their foresight; we have a robust menu of options to mitigate the socioeconomic effects of the covid-19 pandemic.

    The 2030 agenda may be off-track, but that does not mean we have to accept a smaller future. On the contrary, we can build back better and stronger by embarking on new and innovative approached suited to the challenges ahead. That means adopting an implementation mindset and not doing business as usual.

    Rwanda was pleased to co-lead the Discussion Group on Recovering Better for Sustainability, together with the European Union, Fiji, and the United Kingdom. Our recommendations focus on four key strategies in close alignment with both the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement.

    First build resilient national health systems with universal Health Coverage at the centre.

    Second, double down on the digitization of our economies and education systems by investing in new technologies and high speed internet.

    Third, orient action toward inclusion and fairness, especially for women and young people.

    Fourth, leave no one behind by ensuring adequate social and financial protection for the most vulnerable amongst us.

    The financial system can be a force multiplier, but we need to strengthen adherence to global standards and norms by reporting data in a transparent and comparable manner.

    The menu of policy options being presented today gives each country the tools to prevail in its unique context. We cannot allow the sustainable Development Goals to become a victim of the Covid-19 Pandemic or any other unexpected shock. Let's stay focused.

  • NASA Space Apps Challenge Coming To Kigali in October #rwanda #RwOT

    Between 3rd to 4th of October, NASA Space Apps Challenge will launch in Rwanda's capital Kigali the Space Apps weekend hackathon challenge for the first time.

    Some of the key topics will include; Space technology landscape in Rwanda, Opportunities, Various individuals and disciplines that contribute to a successful ecosystem, how to move forward from the current state to increasing Space enthusiasm in Rwanda and other key aspects to it.

    The launch will mainly focus on the importance of embracing Space technology for economic development in Rwanda and charting towards having a strong space technology ecosystem in Rwanda.

    'NASA Space Apps Challenge encourages collaboration from all disciplines in making sure we have robust and sustainable solutions to our economic issues,' reads part of the statement by Space Apps Challenge Kigali.

    Space Apps is annual NASA's global hackathon, first held in April 2012, and serves as innovation incubation and civic engagement program.

    Space Apps is an international hackathon for coders, scientists, designers, storytellers, makers, builders, technologists, and others in cities around the world, where teams engage with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's free and open data to address real-world problems on Earth and in space.

    In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and in the interest of our global community's health and safety, NASA and the Space Apps Global Organizing Team have made the decision to make this year's hackathon an all-virtual event.
