  • Mastercard Foundation supports education with online resources #rwanda #RwOT

    Over the last decade, Davis College and Akilah have made strategic investments in a competency-based education model, designed to be delivered through both face-to-face and online instruction. Yet in response to COVID-19, campuses in Rwanda and across the globe were forced to close in March and halt in-person education, and immediately transition to distance learning.

    With the Mastercard Foundation’s support, Davis College and Akilah will now have the resources needed to ensure that young people are able to continue learning online during the current COVID-19 crisis and that its incoming students and educators are prepared for the digital future of education.

It requires a holistic approach to the student experience, ensuring that learners have both the support they need to successfully complete their coursework, as well as the mentorship to thrive as independent learners facing new challenges.     The faculty at Davis College and Akilah will be equipped with the resources and skills needed to fully facilitate online competency-based education for students, and investments in its online learning platform and digital coursework will ensure that the transition to learning and studying from home continues to be as seamless as possible for its students as they navigate the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Le RNC réexamine sa lutte et lance un centre de formation idéologique à Bugolobi/Kampala #rwanda #RwOT

    Le journal en ligne Virunga Post qui rapporte la nouvelle dit que ce nouveau développement intervient depuis que ce mouvement a échoué dans sa tentative de créer un foyer de guérilla dans les hautes montagnes de Minembwe au Sud de la Province congolaise du Sud Kivu.

    Ce journal fait allusion au fait que les camps d’entrainement de RNC montés dans ces hautes montagnes difficiles d’accès ont été brutalement détruits par on ne sait quelles forces et que les recrues et leurs formateurs ayant tenté de traverser les provinces des Kivu pour l’Uganda ont été interceptées par les forces armées congolaises pour les rapatrier de force au Rwanda.

    Cela a fait dire à Museveni, le Président ugandais, que le RNC a échoué dans sa tentative parce qu’il ne s’est pas suffisamment préparé pour son entreprise, rapporte le journal. Cette remise en examen du RNC se fait en deux étapes et bénéficie d’une collaboration criminelle du Président ugandais Yoweri Museveni qui viole l’esprit des accords de paix de Luanda entre le Rwanda et l’Uganda d’Août 2019. Ces accords insistaient sur le fait que l’Uganda s’engageait à ne plus soutenir les mouvements armés contre le Rwanda et surtout à ne pas leur servir d’arrière base pour leurs activités terroristes.

    Palier 1 : Un Centre des jeunes RNC
    Ce centre est monté dans le quartier Bugologi, Mpanga de Kampala, Rue 21. Il est sous bonne garde des militaires de CMI/Chieftancy of Uganda Military Intelligence mais en tenue de police. Officiellement ce centre forme les jeunes à une vision idéologique correcte.

    Il est rapporté que douze promotions ont déjà terminé leur formation, que le Centre en est au treizième. Tous les lauréats viennent des camps de réfugiés de Kampala mais aussi des comtés habités par les Rwandais ou Ugandais d’origine rwandaise de l’ouest de l’Uganda Hoima, Mubende, Kiboga, Kakumiro, Nakivala…
    Le journal Virunga Post rapporte que ce Centre d’enseignement idéologique procède à sa manière et privilégie l’enseignement de l’Analyse SWOT/ Force-Faiblesse-Opportunité-Menace.

    Pourquoi cette leçon est-elle introduite dans l’horaire de cours ?
    Il est rapporté que lors de l’entretien que le Président Museveni aurait eu avec le Chef de ce Mouvement Kayumba Nyamwasa, il a été fait une analyse sur la cause de l’échec que ce RNC a connu dans les montagnes de Minembwe. Le manque de préparation suffisante du projet a été compris comme la cause de cet échec. Tous les deux seraient arrivés à la conclusion que l’insertion de cette leçon sur l’horaire de cours permettra aux chefs locaux du mouvement Sulah Nuwamanya Wakabirigi et Prossy Bonabaana avec la collaboration de Frank Ntwali, beau-frère de Kayumba Nyamwasa de voir clair dans leur entreprise pour ne plus connaître l’échec.

    Le journal cite toute une liste d’instructeurs de ce Centre dont Epimaque Runanira, Robert Higiro et Rusagara qui sont venus renforcer l’équipe Gervais Condo, Epimaque Ntamashobora na Abdul Karim. Ces derniers donnent leurs cours en Visio conférence, rapporte-t-on.

    Palier 2 : Une campagne de sensibilisation
    Les lauréats de ce Centre d’Enseignement Idéologique, forts de leur formation de persuasion, vont entreprendre une campagne de sensibilisation dans les régions à forte concentration de rwandais et d’Ugandais d’origine rwandaise pour qu’ils se joignent au RNC dans son projet de combattre et déposer le régime rwandais actuel.
    Il est aussi rapporté que d’autres lauréats seront envoyés en mission au Rwanda pour un travail similaire en attendant que Museveni et Nyamwasa seront entrain de rassembler le matériel nécessaire pour attaquer le Rwanda.

    Ce projet de Centre de formation idéologique pour Rwandais se met en place au moment où des rencontres se multipliaient pour le dégel des relations rwando ugandaises. Le mal qui a envenimé ces relations n’est rien d’autre que cette obsession du régime ugandais à appuyer les mouvements armés anti rwandais.
    Dans ces conditions, que faut-il comprendre de l’évolution des relations entre les deux pays voisins ?

    Armenian and Azerbaijani forces have clashed leading to the death of 16 people and wounding 100 others.

    The President of Azerbaijani Ilham Aliyev said on Sunday that his army had suffered losses in the fighting over the disputed separatist region of Nagorno-Karabakh.

    Since 1994 at the end of a separatist war, the disputed region that lies within Azerbaijan but has been under the control of ethnic Armenian forces backed by Armenia. Nagorno-Karabakh is a mostly mountainous region of some 1,700 square miles and lies 30 miles from the Armenian border.

    According to Nagorno-Karabakh leader Arayik Harutyunyan, the breakaway region has lost some positions to Azerbaijan's army amid renewed clashes. He also said there were dead and wounded both among civilians and military personnel.

    Meanwhile, Armenia claimed that two Azerbaijani helicopters were shot down and three Azerbaijani tanks were hit by artillery, but Azerbaijan's defence ministry has rejected that claim.

    In a televised address to the nation, the Azerbaijani president ordered martial law be imposed in some regions of the country and called for a curfew in major cities.

    The long-running and unsuccessful negotiations for resolving the territory's status have been conducted under the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), called on both sides to stop fighting.

    Armenian prime minister Nikol Pashinian said on Sunday that the country could re-examine whether to recognise Nagorno-Karabakh as independent. Such a move would likely obstruct further negotiations.

    Turkey a strong ally of Azerbaijan said 'Armenia is playing with fire and endangering regional peace.' 'Armenia has violated the ceasefire by attacking civilian settlements … the international community must immediately say stop to this dangerous provocation.'

    on Sunday, Pope Francis said that he was praying for peace between the two countries, urging them to them to 'accomplish concrete deeds of goodwill and fraternity' to reach a peaceful solution through dialogue.

  • Trump Is Pushing The Country To The Brink Of Civil War #rwanda #RwOT

    On Wednesday Trump yet again refused to commit to a peaceful transfer of power following the election: 'Well, we're going to have to see what happens. You know that I've been complaining very strongly about the ballots and the ballots are a disaster.' Trump has demonstrated beyond any doubt that he has no respect for American democracy as such. His words should be seen as an assault on the very foundations of this country, which is first and foremost a nation that has always ensured and honored the smooth succession of executive authority. What the president said is nothing short of treasonous, and may well lead to open violence should he lose — a situation for which he is apparently prepared and fomenting his base. Trump has said and done much that was harmful during his time in office, but this statement may be the very worst and most dangerous thing that has ever come out of his mouth.

    Early Thursday morning Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell rebuked Trump's statement in a tweet affirming that there will be a peaceful transition of power. That same evening, a resolution introduced by Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) passed unanimously, which affirms 'the Senate's commitment to the orderly and peaceful transfer of power called for in the Constitution of the United States,' noting that a 'disruption' in the transfer of executive power 'could produce results detrimental to the safety and well-being of the United States.' However, such a resolution is largely figurative and may lack statuary power if Trump still refuses to recognize the result of the election.

    Although the resolution sent a clear message that he is crossing a red line that even his supporters in the Senate will not accept, it is critical that every political body, institution, think tank, and media outlet that stands for democracy comes out immediately with a clear, decisive, and unambiguous statement condemning Trump's assertion to send him a message that what he said is tantamount to treason and that he will face the direst consequences.

    In fact, even during the presidential debates in 2016, Trump repeatedly stated that he would not accept the results of the election unless he won. There should be no reason at this point, now that he is president, not to take him at his word. The media in general should hammer this point day in and day out now until the transfer of power on January 20, 2021.

    The House of Representatives must follow the Senate's lead and pass immediately a resolution, warning Trump of the ominous consequences he and the country will face if he does not adhere to the constitutional process and vacate his office peacefully. Beyond Congress, every Republican in any official capacity must immediately issue a statement condemning in the strongest terms Trump's clear refusal to commit to a peaceful transition of power should he lose in November. Such a statement must be unmistakable, and leave no room for any doubt.

    Opinion writers who value the importance of a peaceful transition of power and the critical importance of free and fair elections and the adherence to their results should immediately write a column, whether for their media outlet or at a minimum on social media, condemning in the strongest words what Trump has said.

    Vice President Biden should raise Trump's refusal to commit to a peaceful transfer of power during next week's debate. Biden must demand a clear and explicit commitment from Trump in front of the nearly 100 million Americans who will be watching that he will adhere to a peaceful transition of power and will not contest the results.

    Gen. Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, should reiterate his statements from July and August that the military will not intervene under any circumstances in a political matter, whether protecting Trump from being removed from the White House should he lose and refuse to leave, or physically removing him in the same situation. For good reason, Trump's physical removal from the White House should be left to US Marshals.

    Every civil society organization ought to issue a warning that the American people will not stand for anything less than a peaceful transfer of power and that they will promote nation-wide civil disobedience in the absence of such transition. In conjunction, many labor unions, such as the AFL-CIO, UAW, and American Federation of Teachers, should issue a similar statement that a nation-wide strike will occur.

    Constitutional experts from all over the country should sign a joint letter to state that refusing a peaceful transfer of power is clearly in contrast to what the Constitution is all about, and condemn Trump's words in the strongest terms.

    Although he has already pledged to push through a hearing, if Mitch McConnell has an ounce of integrity left, he should now refuse to initiate a confirmation hearing of any Supreme Court nominee, which Trump vowed to submit within days. Trump, who has gone on a rampage to delegitimize the result of the election for months, made it clear that should he lose the Supreme Court will have to adjudicate and render the final decision.

    This is why he is rushing to nominate another Republican Supreme Court Justice, hoping that he or she will vote in his favor. The Democrats should hammer home and remind McConnell of his actions in 2016 when he refused to even meet with Obama's nominee Merrick Garland, let alone hold confirmation hearings. To continue with Trump's plan will only demonstrate McConnell's hypocrisy, which may destroy the Republican Party in the process.

    Four years of political turmoil under Trump may well end with massive violence akin to a civil war. Trump is priming his base to act violently, and with over 390 million firearms in the hands of Americans, one can only imagine the calamitous consequences if violence is to erupt between his supporters and those who oppose him.

    The Republican leadership in every state and every municipality are the prime body that can stop this potential calamity from occurring. Time is of the essence. Should the Republican Party as a whole fall short of taking a stand against Trump at this juncture, they will subject the nation to turmoil unseen since the Civil War. Not a single Republican leader will be able to claim that he or she was not warned.
