In 1900 during the German colonial period in Rwanda, Catholic White Fathers established their first mission station in the country.

King Yuhi V Musinga donated to them a plot of land to settle in Save (in present day Gisagara District) where they built the first church in Rwanda in 1900.

As years rolled by, they established across the country including building a massive cathedral at Kiziguro in Gatsibo district.

In 1972, these white fathers at Kiziguro cathedral drilled a very deep hole about 25meters in search of water but were not successful and later resorted to using dynamite and the massive earth material took almost two months to remove.

During the 1994 genocide against Tutsi, 5,500 Tutsi took refuge at this cathedral in anticipation that they would be safe there. Some of them decided to leave and were subsequently killed and thrown into this deep pit that had been dug 1972. It is believed that 11 Tutsis were later rescued from that pit.

According to a former militia Kadunguri currently working as a gardener at Kiziguro Catholic Church 'After the Tutsi in Murambi [had been killed], on April 10th Gatete held a meeting with us (Interahamwe) outside the Church courtyard and the resolution in the meeting was 'kill them all.'

On the morning of April 11th at around 9am, the Interahamwe precisely carried out those instructions.

Every 11th of April is dedicated to the commemoration of the victims of Kiziguro. Kiziguro Genocide Memorial was created on 11th April 1995 located meters away from Kiziguro Sector office.

According to the Genocide archive of Rwanda, there are 14,136 Tutsis buried at the memorial, including victims who were killed on site and others whose remains were exhumed from places scattered throughout the neighbouring sectors.

Kiziguro Genocide Memorial got a facelift with a modern double storied facility that is almost complete. It has completely changed the look of this memorial site.

Sibomana Jean Nepomscene, IBUKA in Gatsibo

Sibomana Jean Nepomscene heads IBUKA in Gatsibo (an umbrella organisation that connects the groups that aid survivors of the 1994 genocide against Tutsi) says bodies of those that had been thrown in this pit will be accorded a decent burial. For the past two weeks they have been trying to search through this pit and the first bodies were discovered 14 meters deep.

According to Sibomana this pit will be preserved as memory of the of the 1994 genocide against Tutsi which claimed over a million lives of innocent Tutsi across the country.

Kiziguro is part of former Murambi Commune that was headed by Jean Baptiste Gatete the former Bourg Master remembered for his highest degree of the swiftness in killings targeting Tutsi. Murambi was one of the districts that made Byumba prefecture (Province) with 85,000 citizens who were well described in official documents as Tutsi or Hutu.

Gatete fled to DRC and was arrested there in 2002 and sentenced to 40 years imprisonment by the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) in 2011 for Genocide and crimes against humanity.

Afro beat crooner, Mico The Best, brags about out how he was paid over Rwf 1 million to pen down Saa Moya song by Bruce Melodie which went viral few months back when 7PM was introduced as curfew time.

Mico The Best real names, Prosper Turatsize, disclosed the information when he was talking about his yet to be open studio, where he will be selling songs written by himself to artists publically for the first time.

'I have written songs for many artists who paid me handsomely but, I have never ripped big from a single like Saa Moya song. I was given Rwf 1 million and few thousands and am very proud that it became a monster hit,' Mico The Best said.

The song went viral across the country when it was released and few days on airplay, the government announced 7PM as curfew time and over night it became a country's curfew anthem especially on social media platforms like instagram, snapchat and whatsapp.

Before even venturing into music industry, Igare hit maker claimed that he was often contracted by musicians to write for them songs.

The singer also revealed that one of the main purposes for the studio is to offload some of the work from musicians in order to concentrate more on other elements to boost their music career.

'You know musicians tend to have a busy schedule and sometimes it slows down their production. But now he/she can contract me to write down a song as one concentrates maybe on creating a video script,' he added.

Mico, apart from being a song writer, he is also a singer and producer who has penned down songs for local music giants like Bruce Melodie, Safi Madiba and some other upcoming artists.

He has his own hit songs like Igare, Umutaka, Akabizu, Twembi and manymore.

'I am impressed with works on Arcades Flyover Bridge,' President Edgar Lungu said in a post on his Facebook page on Thursday showing off a newly constructed flyover bridge with a spacious round about beneath it.

The post has also attracted mixed reactions from the social media fraternity some thanking the president while others unhappy with the aid funded project.

'This cost of this project is $246 million dollars. 85% is funded by the Govt of India which 15 % funding will come from the Zambian Govt. The duration of the project is 4 years. It was launched in September 2019. Take interest to know utuntu guys. Its practically not our money,' says Yosila Tigula.

President Lungu faces sharp criticism from opposition claiming he has mismanaged the country ahead of the forthcoming 2021 elections.

Last year, a bill known in Zambia as 'Bill 10,' was tabled in parliament proposing a change to how the parliament, justice system and central bank would be controlled.

However, a team of lawyers believing that Bill 10 was meant to consolidate power for President Edgar Lungu and his ruling Patriotic Front (PF) party, petitioned the constitutional court.

The Zambian constitutional court ruled by a 6-1 majority to dismiss a petition brought by the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) and the Chapter One Foundation, saying it has no jurisdiction over a legislative bill that remains in deliberations in the country's parliament.

The courts ruled in December 2018 that Lungu could seek a third term under Zambia's constitution because he did not serve a full term when following Sata; he narrowly defeated Hichilema in the first election in 2016, deepening the rift between the rival visions for Zambia and its struggling economy.

'The 2016 polls were marred by election-related violence between PF and UPND supporters, restrictions on opposition-aligned media, misuse of public resources by the ruling PF, and the use of the Public Order Act to restrict opposition rallies,' said Freedom House in its 2019 assessment.
