  • Kagame attends first Cardinal Antoine Kambanda mass #rwanda #RwOT

    The mass organized to celebrate the first-ever Rwanda’s Cardinal took place at Kigali Arena.

    Cardinal Kambanda expressed delight for joining Christians after his new special appointment to comfort believers.

    ' I am excited to join all of you to thank God and share with you the blessing acquired during my installation as Cardinal. Today, I bring the blessing here in Rwanda,' he said.

    The President of Rwanda’s Episcopal Conference, Bishop Philippe Rukamba revealed that they were proud for the milestone and good news for all Rwandans.

    'His Eminent Cardinal, your installation as cardinal made us happy. We interacted with different people on televisions, radios and social media channels expressing gratefulness because they showed how a person becomes cardinal,' he noted.

    'You are adding up another stage to a long sequence of Christians and clerics Rwanda has ever had. Since the past, we are always aware that God spends the day elsewhere and returns to sleep in Rwanda. Your appointment as cardinal convinced us to understand this enough and helped us to understand the impact of Catholic Church in Rwanda globally,' added Rukamba.

    He thanked Cardinal Kambanda for his contribution help Rwandans heal from wounds of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi as the head of Justice and Peace Commission among Rwanda’s Catholic Church Bishops.

    'We consider your installation as cardinal as something proving that we are on the right psychiatric journey because it helps a Christian to pardon like Christ and God,' he said.

    Bishop Rukamba explained that promoting unity and reconciliation under the championship of President Paul Kagame was the enabler to restore peace among Rwandans.

    The Mass was also attended by other bishops from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi , diplomats accredited to Rwanda, representatives of different faith based organizations among others.

  • Relatives of former Rwandan diplomat, Gasana Eugène condemn his wrongful acts #rwanda #RwOT

    Gasana, 58, served as Rwanda’s ambassador to the United Nations in New York since 2012 until 2016. At the time, Rwanda replaced Gasana and summoned him but never returned to the country.

    Since then, he was reported for involvement in different activities intended to destabilize Rwanda’s security. He is said to have coordinated RNC members’ discussions with the President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in which he was asked to join their activities.

    In March 2019, Gasana was part of discussions that brought together President Museveni and Charlotte Mukankusi , the head of diplomacy in RNC.

    The letter from the family of Gasana to which IGIHE has a copy, signed by his sister Alice Gasana shows that the entire family was shocked to hear a relative involved in wrongful acts.

    Apart from cooperation with dissidents intending to destabilize Rwanda’s security, he was recently reported to have raped two times, a Rwandan girl who was conducting an internship at the embassy in 2014.

    'On behalf of the family, I, Gasana Alice wishes to take this opportunity to share my heartfelt feelings with Rwandans over things talked about my brother Eugène-Richard Gasana for more than four years,' reads part of the statement.

    As the eldest sister in the family of four, she narrated a bit of Gasana’s history recounting how they lived together in Burundi and Europe.

    She explained that, during his teenage hood, Gasana was kin on Laws though other people wanted Gasana to become a diplomat which finally came true.

    'Concerning the brother I am telling you, it has been four years hearing bad news against him discomforting me, the entire family and other relatives. He was reported to have committed some acts individually and conspiring in other activities all of which disturbs the family and relatives,' noted Alice Gasana.

    As the eldest and head of family, Alice Gasana, reacted on behalf of the family and relatives to condemn acts reported to her brother noting that it is against virtues acquired during childhood.

    'That is why, I take this opportunity on behalf of the family to condemn and distance myself from shameful acts reported to my brother because they are against virtues we acquired during our childhood,' she said.

    Alice Gasana highlighted that her brother should be held accountable individually because the family was not involved.

    'We have been shocked as a family. We were extremely shocked to hear the name of a sibling reported in such shameful acts. I take this take to declare that the family is completely against the acts,' she said.

    'Brother Gasana, I know well that you used to respect myadvises. As your commitment to apologize is still pending, I apologize on your behalf as a sibling.'

  • President Kagame Celebrates Rwanda's First-ever Cardinal #rwanda #RwOT

    President Paul Kagame on Sunday joined other Roman Catholic faithful at the Kigali Arena to celebrate the first-ever Rwandan Cardinal, His Eminence Antoine Kambanda.

    Late in October this year, Pope Francis elevated Archbishop of Kigali Antoine Kambanda to a Cardinal, making history for becoming Rwanda's first cardinal.

    Now Cardinal Kambanda is among thirteen new Cardinals the Vatican announced on October 25th immediately after the Pope had conducted a recitation of the Angelus.

    Cardinals wear the colour red which indicates their willingness to sacrifice themselves usque ad sanguinis effusionem, that is, to the point of shedding their own blood, in the service of the Successor of Peter, and even though they reside in the remotest regions of the world, they become the titular of a parish in the Eternal City so that they are incardinated in the Church of which the Pope is Bishop.

  • Pope's Reforms Take Effect To Fix Corruption In Roman Catholic Church #rwanda #RwOT

    Pope Francis on Saturday approved the new Statute of the Financial Information Authority (FIA), which will henceforth be called the Supervisory and Financial Information Authority [ Autorità di Supervisione e Informazione Finanziaria (ASIF)].

    He issued a 'chirograph' to approve the new Statute that comes into effect immediately on Saturday, December 5. A chirograph is a form of a papal document with legal force circulated among the Roman Curia.

    'In the overall reform desired by Pope Francis for the Holy See and the Vatican City State, aimed at greater transparency and the strengthening of controls in the economic-financial field, the Holy Father has approved the new Statute of the Financial Information Authority, which, from today's date, will be called the 'Supervisory and Financial Information Authority' (ASIF),' said the Holy See Press Office in a release on Saturday.

    The change of name had been hinted at earlier in July when FIA published its annual report.

    Following the Pope's approval of the ASIF Statute, FIA President Carmelo Barbagallo, who now becomes ASIF's president, explained some of its important features.

    As part of the Pope's overall reform of the Holy See and the Vatican City State, he said, it is regarding 'transparency and strengthening of controls in the economic-financial field'.

    In this context, the most important changes are regarding the governance and organizational structure of the Authority.

    Supervisory role

    The word 'supervisory' that has been integrated, Barbagallo said, is 'not just a name change' but allows the Authority 'to be aligned with the tasks actually assigned to it'.

    He pointed out that since 2013, in addition to its original task of intelligence to combat money laundering and financing of terrorism, the Authority has also been exercising 'prudential' regulatory and supervisory functions on institutions providing financial services on a de facto professional basis, such as to IOR (Institute for Works of Religion, commonly known as the Vatican Bank).

    'This is the reason behind the addition of the term 'supervisory', which of course, is to be understood in the financial field,' he said.

    Distribution of Roles

    The Press Office said that the 'main changes include a renewed distribution of roles between the Chairman and the Management — of a strategic nature for the former, aimed at effectiveness and operational efficiency for the latter — and the establishment of a new unit, dedicated to 'Regulation and Legal Affairs''.

    Commenting on this, Barbagallo said that while confirming the governing Council's role, the new Statute also underscores the President's proactive role in the development of the Authority's strategy, reinforcing his responsibility regarding supervision.

    'At the same time, the role of the management, namely the Director and the Deputy Director, has been consolidated in order to ensure the effectiveness and operational efficiency of the Authority.'

    Barbagallo also spoke about changes in the internal organization of the Authority.  'In line with international best practice,' he said, 'the Regulatory and Legal Affairs Office has been set up to deal with all legal issues, including regulation.'

    Thus, 'the tasks of setting the rules have been separated from those of exercising control'.  This divides the Authority's activities into three units: 'Supervision', 'Regulation and Legal Affairs' and 'Financial Information'.

  • Dilemma: Chelsea Striker Timo Werner Hasn't Scored In 5 Games #rwanda #RwOT

    Timo Werner went on a superb run for Chelsea, however things have gone a little stale for the German. The 24-year-old has not scored in five appearances for the Blues and has looked like a forward struggling a little in front of goal.

    That doesn't sound like a usual problem for a player who scored 44 Bundesliga goals in two seasons for RB Leipzig. The Germany international had a bright start to life in England, having notched up four Premier League goals and another three in the Champions League, all from the spot.

    It is an argument to say, however, that Werner is not playing in his preferred position, playing out left rather than through the middle. He has been pushed out to the wing to make way for Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud, who have both deserved their chances to start.

    In recent games, Werner's misses have been high profile and often, no more so than the chances squandered against Leeds United.

    His first was the biggest, when Olivier Giroud flicked a header that looked like it was sneaking in, but Werner tried to apply the finishing touch.

    However, all he managed to do was clear it off the line for Leeds, and then flicked his follow-up effort on to the bar. 'At half-time I asked and it was maybe the post or inside but it's okay,' Giroud said.

    In the second half, he had several good chances to kill the game off, but failed to do so, being denied by goalkeeper Illan Meslier on every occasion.

    Despite his wastefulness in front of goal, he still managed to have a big impact in the game, setting up the final goal. Even in the 93rd minute he had the pure pace to leave his defender completely behind, before crossing in to Christian Pulisic to tap home.

    Werner has been a constant presence for Lampard this season, and the dilemma comes over whether or not he should be rested more, to really get the best out of him. He has started all 11 Premier League games so far and four of the five Champions League matches to date.

    No doubt he will be left on the bench for the last Group E match against Krasnodar on Tuesday night to rest, coming back in for the Everton clash next weekend.

    Werner looks like he is striving for that goal to get back, and it certainly feels that one goal could be the start of a flood of goals for Werner. He is going to be a big player for the Blues and has all the attributes to be a massive success in the Premier League.
