  • Barefoot Presidential Candidate Evacuates His Pursuers #rwanda #RwOT

Presidential candidate Patrick Oboi Amuriat of the Forum For Democracti Change (FDC) party has been seen evacuating an injured Uganda soldier from a nasty accident scene after the patrol car chasing the candidate overturned.

Three police officers and two Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) officers were on Monday seriously injured after their patrol car that was pursuing the Presidential candidate overturned. This prompted the opposition candidate to stop and help evacuate the security members that were chasing him.

'Sad news one of the patrols that was chasing Presidential Candidate Patrick Oboi Amuriat ( POA) got an accident injuring three police officers and two UPDF  officers and our team had to help in evacuating the Victims,' the FDC said via its official social media accounts.

The FDC, which has for more than five times fielded a candidate to contest against Incumbent President Yoweri  Museveni, have miserably failed and in some instances claimed victory in the polls.

Under this ongoing campaign, the FDC says, it is 'in the final Liberation Phase of removing dictatorship from Uganda and restore the true Spirit of One Uganda, One People.'

The party also claims it aspires to offer Ugandans a brand of political and public service leadership that is transformative, selfless, and patriotic.

'We are committed to pursue policies that make growth more inclusive, create new, decent and well-paying jobs, dramatically improve the quality of public service delivery and strengthen citizenship,' the party says in its rally for support.

On Thursday, Presidential Candidate Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA) was stopped from accessing Kyegegwa Town Council but by defiance POA is campaigning in Kyegegwa town council.

Candidate Patrick Oboi is known to dress up in suits but does not wear shoes as a sign of protest to government. For being bear feet, the candidate is drawing large crowds all coming to take a glimpse of this man.

On Monday, he stopped by Kibuye Market in Kyegegwa District to buy food and the Vendors were very happy to See the barefoot President.

  • President Kagame To Address The Nation #rwanda #RwOT

President Paul Kagame is scheduled to address the nation on Monday afternoon

'Will deliver the State of the Nation Address and hold a virtual press conference followed by an interactive session with citizens across the country,' the Presidency said.

This address comes a time the nation has suffered devastating effects of Covid-19 pandemic that pushed the country into a total lockdown in March- since then the anti covid-19 measures put in place by the government have paralysed or scaled down the normal functioning of all sectors of the economy.

Since march Rwanda has 7,293 cases recorded as of Sunday, 6,091 have recovered from the deadly virus and the country has lost a total of 63 persons due to the pandemic.

President Kagame is expected to highlight the effects of Covid-19 on the nation and encourage citizens to collectively work together to revive the economy while observing all measures aimed at preventing further spread of the pandemic.

The Proximity of Rwanda's immediate neighbours makes it a matter of concern for Rwandans and would be very keen on any mention about such relations with neighbours. A no mention too would not harm.

On Diplomacy, President Kagame is expected to highlight Rwanda's performance especially. Rwanda has since March 2019 kept her border with Northern neighbour Uganda closed over unresolved points. The border closure has had a deep negative impact on cross border trading and movement of people.

For Burundi, there is still an unclear position on how the two countries will forge a new path- the situation looks sketchy as both sides seem on the let-me-wait-and-see position. Burundi closed its borders about five years ago.

In August, Rwanda and Burundi negotiated a path towards enforcing security at their common border, a move aimed at ending longstanding hostilities.

Rwanda's top diplomat Vincent Biruta met his Burundian counterpart Albert Shingiro at the Nemba-Gasenyi border point as part of efforts to kickstart efforts to resolve outstanding bilateral issues.

'This meeting is part of a shared desire to assess the state of bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries and to agree on the modalities of their normalization,' the diplomats said in a joint statement.

  • Hotels banned from accommodating guests without Covid-19 tests #rwanda #RwOT

The measures came after an extra ordinary cabinet meeting last week that issued new strict preventive measures to prevent the fast- increasing COVID-19 cases.

'All guests staying at various hotels countrywide are required to present a negative SARS-CoV2 Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) or Antigen Rapid COVID-19 test,' reads the statement in part.

RDB also announced that international tourists entering the country will be required to take another Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test upon arrival which will be valid for 120 hours. They will be required to take a rapid test after this period elapses.

Among others, the statement reads that tourists visiting National Parks will be required to present a negative SARS-CoV2 Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction test with the exception of Akagera National Park where a negative Antigen Rapid Test results for COVID-19 will be accepted.

'The cost of the Rapid Antigen Test for COVID-19 is Rwf 10,000 and results are available within 15 minutes after a test is taken. The cost of the Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test is Rwf 50, 000,' reads the statement.

A list of accredited private clinics that provide Covid-19 Antigen Rapid Tests can be accessed via RBC website.

All hotel properties have been urged to check for test results before checking in guests.

Rwanda confirmed the first COVID-19 patient on 14th March 2020. As of today, 7293 people have been tested positive out of 690,221 sample tests of whom 6091 have recovered, 1139 are active cases while 63 have succumbed to the virus.

  • GOODsoil VC accelerates Africa's fintech investment surge with $940 000 seed capital injection into Ghana's Zeepay #rwanda #RwOT

GOODsoil's investment will enable Zeepay to continue to scale and roll out its services across the continent, and extend its global reach by launching in the UK in 2021

LONDON, United Kingdom, December 21, 2020/ — GOODsoil VC (www.GoodsoilVC.com) consolidates its commitment to leading the global surge of investment into Africa's fintech market by investing in Ghana's fastest-growing fintech startup — and offering investors a case study of real ROI.

GOODsoil VC, an Africa-focused early stage venture capital firm headed by a diverse team of entrepreneurial investors, makes true on its mission to drive financial inclusion across the continent with an injection of US$940 000 seed capital in Ghanaian fintech company Zeepay.

Founded in 2017 by Charmaine Hayden, Orla Enright, Ashley Thompson-MacCarthy and Richard Mensah, GOODsoil comprises 50% female and 75% black partners, all young, serial entrepreneurs intent on becoming catalysts of economic growth for minority founders across Africa.

'There are clear barriers to entry for tech startups to scale, and our vision is to level the playing field. We go by the dictum that talent is evenly distributed; opportunities are not,' explains Charmaine Hayden. The company is the perfect fit for entrepreneurs, markets and industries that may typically be overlooked by other VC firms, adds Orla Enright.

Zeepay focuses on digital rails to connect digital assets. The company has a footprint in more than 20 African markets and, in April 2020, became the first indigenous company to be awarded the Electronic Money Issuer (EMI) license to operate as a mobile financial services company by the Bank of Ghana, the regulator of banking and financial services.

GOODsoil's investment will enable Zeepay to continue to scale and roll out its services across the continent, and extend its global reach by launching in the UK in 2021.

'We are delighted to have GOODsoil on board,' says Zeepay co-founder and managing director Andrew Takyi-Appiah. 'We believe with their strong brokerage background, with leading Ghanaian brokerage firm Obsidian Achernar in their portfolio, we will be able to attract good pricing on Foreign Exchange for our wholesale clients.'

    Exit Strategy

The deal not only highlights the levelling of disparity in global funding for African startups, but also the challenges inherent in various levels of funding, notes Hayden.

'Whilst the growth of seed investment in Africa is incontestable, it does not reflect the same volume of exits that is able to attract mass investors to the market. In order to sustain real growth, we believe there needs to be an increase in trade sales (exits); real tangible successes that can have a light cast on them to increase investors appetite into the continent.'

GOODsoil's partnership with Zeepay proves that investors can see significant returns in African startups, confirms Takyi-Appiah. 'In the deal, two initial shareholders at Zeepay exited from an initial investment of about USD24,000 in 2015 to USD940,000 at the 2020 exit, making it the first of the kind that a Ghanaian investor has exited a local startup with such significant gains.'

Based in London and Accra, with a portfolio as diverse as its team, GOODsoil VC aims to fund 50+ startups in the next 5 years, while also building longterm relationships with investors who are equally passionate about tech innovation, early-stage companies and investment in Africa.

'GOODsoil will remain bullish on Africa for the foreseeable future, as we scale our portfolio and invest in new exceptional startups. We look forward to shortly confirming a $67.5m fund we are currently raising,' confirms Hayden
