The opening ceremony for Hamwe Festival will take place on November 11 at 6:30PM CAT, and will feature remarks from representatives from the Government of Rwanda, UGHE Chancellor and Partners In Health Co-founder Dr. Paul Farmer, UGHE Vice Chancellor Prof. Agnes Binagwaho, Partners In Health CEO Dr. Sheila Davis, Wellcome Trust Head of Mental Health Priority Area Prof. Miranda Wolpert, and more.

'There is an urgent need to bring together perspectives from the creative and health sectors to offer innovative perspectives at tackling the global issue of mental health,' said Prof. Binagwaho.

'At UGHE, we are building this bridge through Hamwe Festival and hope to create a dialogue about the ways we can improve health care by integrating the arts.'

Hamwe Festival will feature a variety of sessions through the course of the event, including artists such as award-winning South African artist Tsoku Maela, Nigerian documentary photographer Etinosa Yvonne, Rwandan singer-songwriter Kaya, Moroccan poet and novelist Soukaina Habiballah, and many more.

Wellcome supports scientists, takes on big health challenges, campaigns for better science & helps everyone get involved in research. Hamwe Festival embodies these values through the provision of a creative outlet where implementors and artists discuss better, more innovative ways to improve.

'We are delighted to be collaborating with UGHE on this important festival,' said Prof. Miranda Wolpert of Wellcome Trust.

'Bringing together mental health science and the creative industries can help bring fresh insights and opportunities to advance Wellcome's vision for a world in which no one is held back by mental health problems.'

Hamwe Festival believes that including artists in the design and implementation of more health programs can be a catalyst for action against seemingly intractable health challenges and looks forward to continuing to build this platform to encourage more collaboration and innovation.

  • All Blacks' Clash Against Wallabies in Bledisloe Cup Rugby #rwanda #RwOT

The New Zealand national rugby union team All Blacks will give an opportunity to several rookies and returning players for their fourth and final clash against Wallabies- the Australia national rugby union team.

However, their plans have had to change late as they will be without one key player, with lock Patrick Tuipulotu ruled out just before kick-off due to illness. 'Patrick Tuipulotu is ill and has been withdrawn from today's Brisbane test against the Wallabies,' the All Blacks said in a statement.

Tupou Vaa'i has come onto the bench to replace Tuipulotu.

Head coach Ian Foster has named four players who are set to make their All Blacks test debuts, including Akira Ioane who starts at blindside flanker, while Sevu Reece and Ngani Laumape also return to the side.

'We have reset this week and our focus has been on this weekend and the Investec Tri Nations,' Foster said.

'It's an All Blacks-Wallabies test and that's special. We know how fired up they'll be, so we have to make sure we are as well, because we don't want to give ourselves any excuses at the end of it.'

Foster said the new players are raring to go.

'We've been really delighted with the whole squad, so we feel that there are some players who are really putting their hand up and deserve an opportunity.

'Secondly, it's been a big three-week test series to date against Australia. It'll be another massive test, so we've brought in some freshness and new energy into the group. Players are jumping out of their skins to get onto the park.'

The All Blacks will be handed a unique challenge this weekend due to Covid-19 protocols for the tournament.

In a unique build-up to the test, the All Blacks will fly from Sydney into Brisbane several hours before the game and return to Sydney post-game.

'We have to change the structure of our game day preparation, but we don't have to change the approach,' Foster said. 'It's obviously going to be a different test day for us, but it doesn't mean it's going to be disruptive. We've worked hard on getting a structure in place that we think is the right one for Saturday and just have to make sure that when the whistle goes, we are ready.'

  • 'We're Going To Win This Race'- Biden Says #rwanda #RwOT

Democratic nominee Joe Biden addressed the nation Friday, after his growing lead in the presidential election's key battleground states appeared to have placed him on the verge of victory.

'The numbers tell us a clear and convincing story: We're going to win this race,' Biden said in remarks delivered from inside the Chase Center in Wilmington, Del.

Biden's speech had a touch of an anticlimactic feel. When it was scheduled earlier in the day, speculation mounted that it could become a victory speech and might follow a potential race call by the press or major media outlets. But at the time he spoke, the race remained too close to call.

The former vice president nevertheless took the opportunity to project confidence in the ultimate outcome of the contest.

'What is becoming clearer each hour is that record numbers of Americans, from all races, faiths, regions, chose change over more of the same,' he said.

Sen. Kamala Harris of California, Biden's running mate, was reportedly expected to join him in the announcement. But although she joined him onstage, she did not speak, and Biden kept his remarks short.

Early Friday morning, Biden overcame Trump's lead in two key states — Pennsylvania and Georgia — as more results from early and mail-in ballots were added to the totals.

In the absence of a final call, which could come within hours, Biden noted that he had fulfilled his campaign promise to rebuild the Democratic firewall in the states of Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania, which Trump had won in 2016.

'We've rebuilt the Blue Wall across this country that crumbled just four years ago,' Biden said in reference to his wins in those three states.

The remarks came as the race appeared to be quickly slipping away from Trump. As votes continued to be counted in Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and Pennsylvania, Biden held a lead in all of them.

The Associated Press and Fox had already called Arizona for Biden; any of the remaining three states would put the Democrat over the 270 Electoral College votes needed to secure the presidency.

  • Would You Touch In Mouth Of Akagera Lions? #rwanda #RwOT

Members of social media have been exchanging several comments after a photo appeared on twitter showing a Vet in shorts on his knee while hands pulling open the lips of a lioness in the wilderness of Akagera national Park.

'Even if I knew that lion was shot dead, I cannot touch it. Supposing it wakes up? I'm going to have nightmares after seeing this photo,' Hervé reacted to the intimidating photo.

However, like in any other controlled parks, this is a routine check-up conducted on these big cats. They are first euthanized then such diagnosis is conducted by a qualified veterinary doctor.

In July 2015, seven lions from South Africa were introduced and released in Akagera National Park, making them the first lions in Rwanda for 15 years. AndBeyond donated five lionesses from Phinda Private Game Reserve.

    The LIONS Teeth

Armed with canines up to 7cm in length, jaws which can exert over 300kgs (690lbs) of pressure and which are hinged to allow a gape of 11in, the lion's mouth is an intimidating place.

Like all other mammals, the African lion has a fixed arrangement of teeth which can be generalised into a dental formula. This formula can only be effectively applied to adults as, like all other cats, the permanent teeth only begin to erupt at around three months of age, pushing the deciduous teeth up and eventually causing them to fall out. The full set of adult teeth are gained between the age of 13 and 15 months.

The dental formula can be determined by dividing the skull in the middle, then starting at the symmetrical midpoint and counting the teeth moving backwards along the jaw.

Each type of tooth is counted individually, with top teeth being the number in front of the slash. The whole dental formula for a lion is I=3/3 C=1/1 P=3/2 M=1/1. I= incisors, C= canines, P= premolars and M= molars, meaning a lion has 30 permanent teeth.

Lioness grips its canines into Buffalos neck while its claws are pinned through the skin too ensuring a tight composition

The dentition of any animal is a structural adaptation to its diet and therefore directly related to its feeding, foraging and hunting behaviour.

The front canine teeth are spaced such that they can slip between the cervical vertebrae of their prey severing the spinal cord and also to rip chunks of meat away from the bone.

Premolars and molars are termed as carnassials. These are specially located at the cheeks of the lion and are very sharp so as to perform their specified role — that of slicing.

The shapes of the back teeth make them work like a pair of scissors and this is also aided by the stiff jaws that cannot move from side to side, which helps keep the carnassials teeth in alignment for cutting.
