Uganda's incumbent, President Kaguta Museveni has cancelled his expected Presidential Address that was scheduled for 7pm this Sunday after his biggest opponent Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert announced to hold his address at the same time.

Senior Press Secretary to President Museveni, Don Wanyama said via tweeter that the address 'has been deferred to a new date that will be announced. We regret any inconveniences.'

Wanyama announced Museveni's U-turn an an hour after Kyagulanyi a.k.a Bobi Wine's party National Unity Platform (NUP) announced that he would address the nation today at 7:00 PM via Facebook and all other social media platforms.  'A wide range of matters of national importance to be communicated,' the tweet read.

The incident has attracted all forms of reactions particularly many Ugandans mocking Museveni as a scared candidate.

Historic signatures were put on agreements to establish and host a Fund for Export Development in Africa (FEDA) in Rwanda. 

Rwanda's Ambassador to Egypt, Alfred Kalisa, also a highly experienced banker, and Afrxim Bank executives on Sunday afternoon, November 22, put pen to the establishment of the continental multi-billion fund.

The monumental signing was held in Egypt's capital Cairo.

The Kigali-based FEDA will be the bank's subsidiary providing seed capital to companies seeking to grow their export markets.

The fund will initially raise US$500 million and later grow to over US$ 1 billion within a few years of operation.  Afrexim Bank  has already committed US$350 million to the fund including commitments for operation of a credit fund, strategic investments and partnerships.

'The ability to host FEDA is testament to the good leadership and pan-Africanism of Rwanda.' — Prof. Benedict Oramah, President of Afrexim Bank said.

'Today, we make history, one that will be remembered for decades. We bring hope for small businesses. We commit to re-energize Africa's industrial aspirations and support the emergence of regional supply chains one of the goals of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement,' Oramah said.

The fund initially targeted at US$500 million is expected to grow to over US$ 1 billion within a few years of operation. @afreximbank  has already committed US$350 million to the fund including commitments for operation of a credit fund, strategic investments and partnerships.

'Thank you for your confidence in Rwanda and its efforts to increase private equity investments, in sectors critical to driving Intra-African Trade and export development,' Ambassador Kalisa said.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa pleaded with Group of 20 (G20) leaders to ensure an inclusive global economic recovery when speaking at the virtual G20 Leaders' Summit on Saturday.

He said the COVID-19 pandemic hit Africa hard. 'Economic activity on the continent is expected to contract by 3.2 percent in 2020, with the region falling into a recession for the first time in 25 years.'

'In the middle of the pandemic — even as we battle rising global infections — we must look towards an inclusive economic recovery, where no country is left behind,' the president said.

'We call on the G20 member states to use all of their persuasive powers, individually and collectively, to convince all creditor countries, the multilateral development banks, the credit rating agencies and the private sector to continue to work with us to address the problem of burgeoning and unsustainable developing country debt,' he added.

Ramaphosa, current chairperson of the African Union (AU), said the organization has proposed several measures to ease Africa's debt problem, which include debt relief in the form of interest-payment waivers and deferred payments.

'In addition to the suspension of debt service payments, large financing needs remain necessary to both stave off a deep humanitarian crisis and stimulate economic rebirth. The IMF (International Monetary Fund) should urgently consider the issuance of additional special drawing rights and for the allocation of these to member countries that need the resources most,' he added.

Ramaphosa also said all countries should have access to the COVID-19 vaccine once it is available. 'Another immediate task is to ensure that there is equitable and affordable access for all countries to the COVID-19 vaccine once it is developed,' he said.

A video of a yet to be identified Ugandan man by names, is going rounds on social media where the man describes Uganda's Presidential Candidate Bobi Wine a 'true messiah' of faith and hope.

In a deep voice, the calmly composed man, elegantly expressed what political observers have described as the bone in the meat. He challenged Bobi Wine's critics who have for long doubted his ability to lead the country.

In the video, link below, the man says; 'I don't care what you call him,' he said, 'I don't care what you try to do to him, Bobi Wine is the true messiah of faith and hope.'

In the 1:31 minutes video, the man explained what he believes Bobi Wines stands for and what he represents.' Before you judge and before you call him names, and say whatever you want to say, ask yourself one question,' he said, adding, 'If you had what he has, in terms of money, in terms of family and children, and fame…would you have done what he has done, would you have risked what he has risked?'

The Ethiopian government on Saturday announced the capture of cities from Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) fighters in different directions across the restive Tigray regional state.

'The Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) took full control of Axum, Adwa and the surrounding areas of Adigrat,' the state of emergency task force established by the federal government to watch over the ongoing military operations against the TPLF, said in a statement.

'Our Defense Forces, who are advancing towards the hideouts of the TPLF militia, were confronted with a siege in Selehleha after conquering Shire,' it said, adding that 'the TPLF militia, which had taken refuge in Selehleha, cut off roads with dozers and damaged the asphalt.'

'Nevertheless, the ENDF broke into their defenses and took full control of the city of Axum,' the statement read.

According to the Ethiopian government, on the way from Axum to Adwa, 'the TPLF militia tried to defend itself in some areas, but was defeated by our defense forces who took full control of Adwa.' The ENDF is now advancing to Adigrat city after taking full control of its surroundings, it was noted.

The Ethiopian government also disclosed that its forces are now on course to the regional capital, Mekelle, where many believe senior TPLF leaders are presently stationed.

'Many of the TPLF militia have surrendered, including the ENDF soldiers that sided with the junta,' the statement read.

Since the early hours of November 4, the Ethiopian government has been undertaking military operations against the TPLF, which rules over Ethiopia's northernmost Tigray regional state.

The federal government's operation followed the TPLF's attack on the Northern command base of the Ethiopian Defense Force, a division stationed in the region for over two decades and based in Mekelle city, capital of Tigray region.

Amid the ongoing fighting, the United Nations Refugee Agency had warned that a full-scale humanitarian crisis is unfolding as thousands of refugees flee each day amid ongoing conflict in Ethiopia's Tigray region to seek safety into Sudan.

According to the agency, women, men and children have been crossing the border at the rate of 4,000 per day since November 10, rapidly overwhelming the humanitarian response capacity on the ground.

The UN agency is presently supporting the Sudanese government in its response, ramping up humanitarian assistance at the borders as the needs continue to grow.

The Ethiopian government has also established a committee to address humanitarian concern in the country's restive northern Tigray regional state, said Redwan Hussein, spokesman of a newly-established State of Emergency Task Force for the Tigray conflict.
