    Umuyobozi mukuru wa RBC, Dr Sabin Nsanzimana, agira inama abashakanye ko n’ubwo baba bizerana bakwiye kujya bipimisha virusi itera SIDA kuko hashobora kugira uwandura.

Twabonye rero ko hejuru ya 60% by’ubwandu bushya bwa virusi itera SIDA buri mu miryango itekanye izi ko nta kibazo ifite”.

    Ati “Aha rero birasaba ingufu kubwira umuntu ngo ni byiza kwizera uwo bashakanye ariko akamenya ko umuntu ari umuntu. Abantu barasabwa kwipimisha, kugira ngo barebe niba hari umwe mu bashakanye waba yaraciye ahantu akayizana kuko bibagiraho ingaruka bombi ndetse no ku bana babyara”.

    Ibyo biravugwa mu gihe ubwo bushakashatsi bwerekanye ko 84% gusa by’Abanyarwanda ari bo bipimishije ku buryo bazi uko bahagaze, kandi u Rwanda rwarihaye intego y’uko abazi uko bahagaze baba bageze kuri 95% mu myaka 10 iri imbere.

    Ubwo bushakashatsi bwerekanye kandi ko abantu bakuru ari bo bitabira kwipimisha virusi itera SIDA kuko bari ku kigero cya 76.9% by’abipimishije, mu gihe mu rubyiruko ruri hagati y’imyaka 15 na 24, abipimishije ari 52.4% gusa ndetse banafata ibisubizo byabo.

    Ikindi ubwo bushakashatsi bwerekanye ni uko mu Rwanda ubwandu bushya bwa virusi itera SIDA ari abantu 5,400 ku mwaka, mu mijyi akaba ari ho hari abanduye benshi kurusha mu cyaro, kuko mu mijyi habarirwa abagera kuri 4.8%, na ho mu cyaro hakaba habarirwa abagera kuri 2.5%.

    Kugeza ubu mu Rwanda abanduye virusi itera SIDA baracyari kuri 3%, muri bo abari ku miti igabanya ubukana bwayo bageze kuri 98%.

  • Moving from Traditional Mining to Modern Mining: Rwanda looks at Skilled personnel with qualification in Mining #rwanda #RwOT

    As Rwanda prepares to celebrate International Mining Day on December 4, 2020, there is growing evidence that Rwanda wants to keep pace with the mining sector's transition from a traditional to a more advanced and knowledgeable Mining.

    Normally when Mining companies are employing Workers, they select ordinary men, boys, girls and women but you find that a large number are workers who do not have the knowledge in Mining and it is only done because they have the energy to dig.

    Often, we hear of mining accidents that kill people or tectonic blasting used in mining that sometimes destroy houses or injure people.

    This adds to the fact that even production can be lost if not properly monitored due to a lack of information on the type of stones to be discarded from the desired ones even if such cases are not reported.

    Apparently, Rwanda should focus on improving the mining sector and increasing its professionalism and work on information and knowledge based modern mining.

    This will also help in the protection of natural resources and environmental/ecological resources protection as knowledge will be the driving force in this field.

    On Monday November 30, officials from Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board joined students of mining and geology, University of Rwanda to reflect on the skills contribution to the development of the mining sector in Rwanda.

    The discussions were part of a series of activities to mark mining week ahead of the International mining day slated on Friday 4, December.

    Setting the tone for the event, the opening discussion provided an overview of the mining sector and an understanding of skills and modern equipment as cornerstones of the development of the sector at large.

    Under the theme 'Contribution of skills and modern equipment in the development of the mining sector' the International Mining Day in Rwanda will be celebrated at Rutongo School of Mining.

    This celebration will be coupled with the official launch of the campaign to sensitize mining operators to employ skilled personnel and to use modern equipment to modernize the sector.

    'We chose this theme for two reasons: to increase the level of safety and to increase production' Dr. Ivan Twagirashema, the Deputy CEO of Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board told a group mining operator on Wednesday December 2, 2020 during a study tour at New Bugarama Mining, Burera district.

    Dr. Ivan explained that New Bugarama Mining was selected as a model company due to its commitment in using skilled personnel and use of modern equipment. 

    The governor of Northern province Hon.Gatabazi Jean Marie Vianney who also joined the group during the study tour asked mining operators to give a chance to their children to study acquire skills in mining.

    'In the days to come this sector will employ only skilled personnel, people who are able to use skills and modern equipment. So, let these people be your children, give them their right to study.'

    Avuga ko aya mahugurwa azafasha buri muhinzi wa kawa kuyikorera neza, kuyisazura no kuyifumbira mu rwego rwo kongera umusaruro wayo, ariko ko ubwiza bwa kawa buzaterwa n’uko yagemuwe ku ruganda.

    Aha naho(ku ruganda) bazasabwa gukurikirana umuhinzi kugira ngo ibyo asabwa byose abyuzuze, ndetse ko umucuruzi ujyana ikawa mu mahanga na we atazaba yicaye, ahubwo azaba ashakisha amasoko atanga igiciro cyiza k’umuhinzi n’undi wese ukora mu ikawa.

  • COVID-19: 50th death, 46 new cases #rwanda #RwOT

    According to a statement from the Ministry of Health released last night, the deceased is a 45 year old man from Kigali where majority of new cases were found.

    The new cases are from Kigali: 29, Rwamagana: 7, Musanze: 4, Rubavu: 3, Gakenke: 1, Kirehe: 1 and Nyagatare: 1.

    So far 5994 cases have been found out of 631 598 sample tests since the first patient was confirmed in March 2020.

    5575 of them have recovered, 369 are active cases while 50 patients have succumbed to the pandemic.

    Coronavirus symptoms include coughing, flu, and difficulty in breathing. The virus is said to be transmitted through the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract.

    Rwandans are urged to adhere to COVID-19 health guidelines, washing hands frequently using soaps and safe water, wearing face masks and respecting social distancing.

  • Three closed Huye factories leave 250 jobless #rwanda #RwOT

    The factories which are now surrounded by bushes include Société Rwandaise des Allumettes (SORWAL) that manufactured matchboxes, GABI involved in food processing and New Rucep, a leather tanning factory.

    SORWAL closed down in 2014 over huge debts in taxes owed to the Government.

    The closure left 125 employees laid off. The firm was auctioned in 2018 and bought by a Malawian, Osman Rafik. At the time it was reported that the plant would provide jobs for 300 but has not yet resumed up to date.

    GABI that sold processed foods especially beans closed in 2012 leaving 98 employees out of jobs. The number excludes casual workers.

    It was said that the closure resulted from unpaid debts worth Rwf 500 million which Rwanda Correction Service (RCS) owed the company.

    New Rucep also halted operations in 2017 and left 35 workers laid off. It was closed following surrounding residents’ complaints for bad smell from the plant’s waste water. The 250 permanent employees that lost jobs are joined by part time workers who also lost job opportunities.

    Some of employees laid off explain that the plants’ closure left them jobless amidst unpaid salary arrears.

    'We had spent six months without salary when the factory closed,' says one of former employees at SORWAL.

    Emmanuel Ngarukiyimfura, a resident of Huye raises fears that bushes surrounding these firms might become a hiding spot for gangsters or wild animals and appeals on concerned officials to take action.

    'The factories grounds have become bushes and arouse worries. There is need to renovate and reuse these structures lest they host wild animals and gangsters that might abuse residents,' he observes.

    The Governor of Southern Province, Alice Kayitesi says they are seeking how to restore operations for halted projects that were beneficial to the community.

    'The Province is concerned with the issue and has taken measures aimed at revamping the factories and other projects that benefited the community,' she explains.

    Kayitesi assures that GABI will resume operations soon because it was discussed during cabinet meeting.

    'In partnership with the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Rwanda Development Board and other top Government institutions have delegated a team to follow up GABI and devise ways of getting it up and running again,' she says.

    'The issue was once discussed in cabinet meeting. We expect it to resume, process produce from residents and return jobs to laid-off workers,' she said.

    Michel Campion, one of founders of New Rucep factory explains that they established ways of reducing bad smell from waste water but lacked funds to restore operations.

    He however reveals that the machinery are still in good condition giving optimism to resume whenever funds are available.

    December 3 is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a fitting occasion for the United States to reaffirm its commitment to, and support for, the full inclusion of persons with disabilities in daily life of the community. We point with pride to robust public and private enforcement of the Americans with Disabilities Act and to other federal, state, and local laws that guarantee open and equal access to facilities, markets, jobs, goods, and services.

    It is also a fitting occasion to reaffirm that all members of the human family are 'created equal, and are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.' Each individual must have an equal opportunity to develop his or her unique talents and must be free to pursue their dreams.

    We applaud the participation and leadership of persons with disabilities and their representative organizations in efforts to assure equal access and opportunity, and we recognize those whose vision and hard work are the basis for the technologies on which we rely to ensure that no one is left behind.

    On this International Day of Persons with Disabilities, I am proud to announce the opening of the Access Center at the U.S. Department of State, an interactive facility showcasing assistive technologies that remove barriers for our employees with disabilities. The United States reaffirms our commitment to promoting and protecting the human rights of all and to achieving equal opportunity in education, employment, and participation in civic life for persons with disabilities.
