International public and private stakeholders will participate in the first of a five-day virtual Africa Mining Forum today.

The conference will provide a venue for presentations and discussions on investment in small mining operations across Africa. The COVID-19 recovery of mining markets is expected to be an important topic at this event.

Rwanda is seeking to benefit from the forum. Due to the pandemic, Rwanda's mining sector has suffered from a combination of lockdowns, reduced airline timetables and a global drop in mineral prices. Revenue from Rwanda's three main mineral exports—tin, tungsten and tantalum—fell by 30.9% earlier this year as demand contracted.

Rwanda plans to revive its mining industry by offering incentives to junior mining companies at the Forum. Because mineral exploration is significantly underfunded, Rwanda will allow mining companies to write-off financial losses associated with exploration costs for 10 years on annual tax return submissions. While Rwanda's scheme has already attracted $20 million from the UK-based mining company Techmet, it is not yet clear if the incentives will be enough to attract increased investment. Mineral exploration is a very risky venture and lacks the quick return on investments that many mining companies prefer.

Uganda Police on Sunday sandwiched the car carrying Presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi and teargased him and his supporters for grossly disregarding the government's guidelines against Covid-19 pandemic.

'A teargas canister was thrown directly into my car, in Mbale district. The crime of the people was waving at me, and marching with me peacefully towards our designated venue,' Presidential candidate Kyagulanyi said.

'Why would you have to go against the guidelines of the electoral commission? You were advised to put into practice the preventive measures against the deadly coronavirus but instead you become an agent in spreading it among the innocent local people,' Jordan a concerned Ugandan reacted to Kyagulanyi's post on social media.

However, Kyagulanyi whose campaign methods are contradictory include, running with a crown of supporters for longer distances to the venue of his campaign speeches.

According to Museveni this campaign is supposed to be conducted in a scientific format as opposed to the traditional way of physical rallies, 'we are running a purely scientific campaign because of this terrible pandemic.'

General elections will be held in Uganda on 14 January 2021.

'Gen. Museveni and his pathetic hypocrisy. In every town, our people are brutalised, teargassed and arrested for gathering to wave at us.  On the other hand, Museveni hires people, dresses them in t-shirts and parades them on streets under police protection,' candidate Kyagulanyi further complained.

Incumbent President and candidate Yoweri Museveni however, says, 'Current circumstances (Covid-19) do not allow me to do rallies. Although I am also campaigning, I call upon my colleagues to desist from endangering our people no matter the reason. The ones in charge should also see to it that Ugandans' lives are protected.'

For Museveni who walked away from the campaign venue podium and took to the ground and showed his fitness stamina by taking press ups, argued that, 'In these campaigns, I have completely refused to 'kill' my people by calling them for rallies.'

Covid-19 situation in Uganda as of Sunday reported cases 15,789 those recovered are 8,038 and the deaths have reached a souring 144.

A virtual Africa Mining Forum is scheduled to officially kick off at about 9:30AM as speakers are drawn from various players in the industry.

Francis Gatare the Chief Executive of Rwanda Mines, Petroleum & Gas Board is lined up to present an Opening keynote address to this forum and will be joined by Emma Wade-Smith Her Majesty's Trade Commissioner for Africa at the United Kingdom Department for International Trade.

Others include Hubert Danso the Chief Executive Officer and Vice Chairman of Africa Investor (Ai) Group and Sheila Khama and Jörgen Sandström. This panel will discuss the 'recovery plan to stimulate investment into mining exploration in Africa.'

As reported earlier, the digital event will deliver 5 days of interactive and content-led activities, from 12 strategic Spotlight sessions, international CEOs , One-on-One, Women in Mining, and Ministerial Forum.

After a devastating pounding by Covid-19 pandemic, the United Arab Emirates on Sunday said it has introduced new 'freelancer' licenses to allow foreign nationals to conduct 48 types of business activities on its territory.

The freelancer licence covers sectors such as consultancy in computer hardware and software, real estate, legal consultancy, public relations, fine art and tourism.

The state news agency reported that this move aims at creating more flexibility in the jobs market and boost private businesses in the services sector, it reported. To date most foreign nationals have had to be employed by a company to win the right to work in Abu Dhabi.

According to Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development said the freelancer licence will enable non-citizens to conduct their business activities from their residences or any other authorised location, WAM news agency reported.

UAE has also taken steps to adopt a more flexible visa policy, offering longer residencies for certain types of investors, students and professionals.

The Mauritanian national football team suffered a bitter thrashing from the Burundians on Sunday in the African cup of nation's qualifiers.

Saidi Ntibazonkiza pumped into the Mauritanian net two goals in the 6^th and 54^th minute while Youssouf Ndayishimiye scored in the 46^th minute sealing the deal for Burundians.

However, Mauritania also managed to harvest one goal after Mamadou Niass kicked into the Burundian net earlier in the 27^th minute of first half. This match was the second leg or Sunday 15 November at Intwari Stadium.

Burundi and Mauritania are in Group E of the tough African cup of nation's qualifiers.

The pompous born again evangelist Shepherd Bushiri, who had previously said he wanted to clear his name, has fled South Africa to his home country, Malawi and skipped bail in a case that he is charged with fraud and money laundering.

Bushiri described his decision to skip bail as 'a tactical withdrawal meant to preserve lives' while speaking to supporters on social media on Saturday.

He said there had been attempts on his life and he accused the South African authorities of not offering protection.

There had been allegations that Bushiri fled on Malawi's presidential jet with President Lazarus Chakwera — something that has been denied by both Chakwera's office and the South African authorities.

There are also questions over whether the two countries will co-operate over bringing the couple back to South Africa.

The South African government announced on Sunday that they have started the process to bring the couple back from Malawi 'to ensure that the two fugitives face justice'.

Bushiri has been referred to as one of the richest religious leaders in Africa.

He says he has cured people of HIV, made the blind see, changed the fortunes of the impoverished and, on at least one occasion, appeared to walk on air.

With the ongoing modernization of Kigali city, the Anglican church of Rwanda has been quietly developing its prime land as most evidenced by the new magnificent cathedral at Giporoso, Remera.

Archbishop of Anglican Church of Rwanda Laurent Mbanda last week on Friday tweeted another architectural masterpiece and accompanied the two photos with these words; 'Come and be our neighbour! Anglican Church of Rwanda.'

The magnificent masterpiece with three stories seems to host office space and rooftop restaurant seated on a prime street. Archbishop Mbanda does not mention where this structure will be built.

'Congratulations! Neighbors might have different orientations. Do you plan to have offices and shops?' asked Dr.Nkurunziza Joseph Ryarasa.

Another tweep identified only as Kmerarry asked, 'Where is this coming up and when is it going to be complete?'

Definitely the new infrastructure project has caused a lot of excitement from the Anglican religious faithful locally and from across the world.

The Anglican Church of Rwanda (ACR or EAR in French) is a province of the Anglican Communion, covering 11 dioceses in Rwanda. There are over 1,000,000 Anglicans in Rwanda, making P.E.A.R. one of the largest church bodies in the country.

It should also be remembered that on 04 October 2019, the Church of Rwanda 'decolonialised' its name. Changed its name from 'Province de l'Eglise Anglicane au Rwanda' to 'Eglise Anglicane du Rwanda' in order to assert that it was no longer a colonial subject.

'We are not subjects. Some want us to accept that it is essential to being Anglican that you are recognised by Canterbury, but we find our identity first and foremost through our biblical and Anglican doctrinal inheritance in Christ. The Jerusalem Statement and Declaration of 2008 concluded 'We can only come to the devastating conclusion that 'we are a global Communion with a colonial structure.'' We seek only to be a colony of heaven!,' Archbishop, Dr Laurent Mbanda said last year.

Responding to Archbishop, Dr. Mbanda, the secretary general of the Anglican Communion, the Rt Revd Dr Josiah Idowu-Fearon, said, 'Each Province is autonomous, but also interdependent because we are brothers and sisters in Christ. The Anglican Communion is based on fellowship and relationship, a gift of God's grace and love, no more and no less. The link between Provinces is, and always has been, through relationship — communion — with the see of Canterbury, never as its subject.'
