  • Pope Says History Has Separated People But Not Destroyed Roots Uniting Them #rwanda #RwOT

Pope Francis receives members of the Pontifical Latin American College in Rome, and reminds them of the richness that their culture has to offer to Christian communities around the world.

'Although history has separated our peoples, it has not destroyed the root that unites them in that great work of the evangelization of America.'

Pope Francis opened his remarks to the community of the Pontifical Latin American College with these words. He explained that it is on this premise that the College was born: 'A commitment that would unite all our particular Churches and at the same time open them to the Universal Church in this city of Rome.'

Pope Francis went on to note that the seminarians' experience of communion and openness is a great challenge and can 'help heal the world'.

'The Gospel and its message came to our land by human means…and its Word spread to all corners of the continent', he said, explaining that this 'miracle' took place because 'both those who arrived and those who received them were able to open their hearts' to what the other could bring.

The Pope then said the Latin American presence has brought huge benefits to Christian communities around the globe: from Northern and Central Europe all the way to the East. He said these communities have found 'a new vitality and a renewed drive' from the influence of Latin America.

He used the example of the celebration of the Christ of Miracles, and Our Lady of Guadalupe.

'The rich cultural mix that made evangelization possible is being reproduced again today. Latino peoples meet among themselves and with other peoples thanks to social mobility and the facilities of communication, and they too emerge enriched from this encounter.'

This is what your formation should be about, continued the Pope, 'sowing the Word generously' as God sows.

There are three concrete points of action, said the Pope: 'opening the door of your heart and the hearts of those who listen to you; to pitch in and call others to do so with you for the good of all; to heal this world of the great evil that afflicts it and that the pandemic has brought to light.' Each of these, he continued, have two movements — 'personal and communitarian' — which complete one another.

    Be shepherds, continued the Pope.

'Surely, in your heads, there are infinite initiatives and I do not doubt that by working hard you will do much good and help many people, but our mission would not be perfect if we stayed at that', said the Pope. He urged the members of the College to 'fight against a culture of waste, of social segregation, distrust and prejudice because of race, culture or faith', so that a feeling of fraternity may prevail over any difference.

'Cure the world of the great evil that afflicts it,' continued Pope Francis.

'The pandemic has put us in front of the great evil that afflicts our society. Globalization has overcome all borders, but not our minds and hearts. The virus is spreading unchecked, but we are unable to respond together. The world continues to close its doors, rejecting dialogue and collaboration, refusing to open itself sincerely to common commitment for a good that reaches everyone without distinction.'

The cure of this evil must come from our roots, concluded the Pope. It must come 'from the hearts and souls that will one day be entrusted to them, with concrete proposals in the field of education, catechesis, social commitment, capable of changing mentalities and opening spaces, to heal this evil and give God a united people.'

Finally, Pope Francis prayed that the Virgin Mother, the Guadalupana, Patroness of Latin America, might 'sustain hope' in the midst of so many uncertainties, so that each member may respond to the call of God 'and be witnesses of the human fraternity that is born of being children of God.'

  • Rwanda's Community Health Workers Receive Protective Gear #rwanda #RwOT

Community health workers in 25 of 30 districts Rwanda have been armed with gear that protects them against rain, the scotching sun and while maneuvering through impassable terrain.

Imbuto foundation said on Friday, 'We donated weather protective equipment to Community Health Workers in 25 districts. These materials include uniforms, rain suits, boots and umbrellas.'

The foundation added that this donation was possible through partnership with the ministry of Health and Rwanda Biomedical Centre.

Community health workers are a vital component of the Rwanda health care system because they traverse the country's landscape classified as mountainous to deliver services to communities in each village. They are coordinated by the Community Health Desk of the Ministry of Health.

They mobilise the community on advantages of immunization, family planning services, malaria prevention and treatment. They are instrumental in nutrition surveillance program and they also help in efforts on TB and HIV/AIDS prevention.

Each district is divided into sectors, which are further divided into cells and finally into villages, Imidugudu. On average, a village can accommodate 50 to 150 households.

Every village has four CHWs. Each village has a maternal health worker responsible for identification of pregnant women, antenatal care visits, and ensuring delivery at health facilities.

Despite current health achievements, like many African countries the CHW program in Rwanda still faces significant challenges that hinder delivery of the quality of the comprehensive package of services.

These challenges range from low capacity of CHWs, to insufficient resources to sustain routine community health activities including cooperatives, training, and refresher training, to reinforcing supply systems, to purchasing equipment, to upgrading infrastructures needed to deliver more health services to the community.

Effectively addressing these challenges will significantly contribute to the achievement of the national health targets.

  • GEW2020 Botswana: Hooza Media Company Founder explains why Start Ups need to use Social media #rwanda #RwOT

As more and more people are getting into entrepreneurship, especially for young people, it is important that they understand how to advertise their services so that the number of customers increases the same as the business brand.

However, there are many people who feel that advertising is expensive due to the fact that the only way they think one can use to advertise is radio while as the use of the Internet is increasingly reaching among many people there are also other media channels that can be used to communicate or sell their services to the targeted audience.

Hooza Media Company CEO, Victor Nkindi explained that using social media is a matter of innovation where the social media users must first understand the audience or targeted group adding that for Start-ups, it will become easier to interact with the public in an innovative and customer attractive way.

Victor Nkindi, Media Expert and Entrepreneur from Rwanda as well as CEO at Hooza Media Company was Speaking at Global Entrepreneurship Week Botswana part of GEW2020 events on Friday, November 20, 2020, alongside with. Ex Miss Botswana and brand entrepreneur Malebogo Marumoagae and Keletso Mo, Media Expert and Entrepreneur from Botswana.

The session focuses on the topic of media and start-ups.

Nkindi says that although Radio is an important channel in helping Start Ups to grow a brand , Social media is becoming a channel that will help Start Ups grow and expand their services to more people and faster.

Nkindi says 'Of course using radio will make a difference but innovate and have a way to include your audience and to interact with the audience through those social media, therefore you will make a difference.'

Mr. Nkindi invites any Start-Up to know mobile channels to be used due to the fact that within five years the mobile communication is likely to take a big share in the media industry not only in Rwanda but also globally.

Recent Statistics show that in Rwanda, Mobile subscriptions Q1 2020 stood at 9,862,992 while in Q2 the number was 9,860,169 means that % change between Q2 and Q1 equals -0.03.

If you look at the figures in Rwanda alone, in the next five years, mobile phones will play a significant role in the media and services, and once the growth of Internet use and smartphones continues among the population this will also lead to the increased number of social network users.

However, Startups also advised to rush into use of Social media without a plan as highlighted by Madam Malebogo Marumoagae, Ex Miss Botswana and brand entrepreneur.

She says 'As an entrepreneur if you get into social media too quickly without a plan and unfinished products which are not properly packaged, you are likely to lose that first impression on your products and that means that your products are not ready to bring the outcomes that you want. So, it is better to have a social media plan before you rush into the product.'

The boys did a great job. They successfully covered all the boardings. About seven kilometers before the finish, a yellow man came in. I waited and later I covered it. • Africa's Great Lakes Region Recommits To Tackling Security Challenges #rwanda #RwOT

    0Shares
    0

Peace, security and development are still complex targets to achieve in Africa's Great Lakes Region because of unresolved local internal problems in the 12 member states.

On Friday, heads of states and government from these member states held virtually their 8th summit and discussed on how to tackle the existing challenges on Peace, security and development. This virtual gathering was convened by Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso, the current ICGLR chair.

President Paul Kagame participated in this summit and observed that peace is a pre-condition for development and prosperity.

'A collaborative and harmonised approach is the best way to deal with the security and public health challenges facing the Great Lakes,' President Kagame said.

It should be noted that the Great Lakes Region is currently faced with a heightened level of insecurity ranging from very active armed groups in Eastern DRC that have continuously launched attacks in neighbouring Rwanda and Burundi.

South Sudan and Central Africa are also actively under siege from internal security challenges that have attracted intervention of peace keeping missions under the joint UN and AU command.

Rwanda President Paul Kagame during the virtual 8th ICGLR summit on November 20

However, President Kagame believes that it is past time to uproot the armed groups, once and for all.

Last week on November 11, the regional grouping said it had taken significant step toward eradicating statelessness in the region as it marked the 6th anniversary of the Global Campaign to End Statelessness by 2024.

'Genocide fugitives should not find refuge anywhere in our region and should be brought to Justice,' President Kagame said on Friday, adding that this can only be achieved through cooperation among the countries of ICGLR to even overcome other regional challenges.

Three years ago, the IGCLR issued the Brazzaville Declaration on the Eradication of Statelessness in the Great Lakes Region along with its Regional Plan of Action 2017-2019.

ICGLR defines a stateless person as someone who does not have the nationality of any country.

'Thousands of people living in the region cannot establish their nationality, with devastating consequences on the effective enjoyment of their human rights, leaving them marginalized and not able to access services such as education and health,' the ICGLR says.

With their acceptance of the Brazzaville Declaration, the ICGLR now has a more ambitious common framework for the eradication of statelessness in the Great Lakes Region. This includes a new strategic objective to guarantee access to proof of legal identity such a national identity documents as well as a further specific aim to strengthen universal birth registration in order to prevent statelessness. The validated plan of action will run through 2024, in line with the Global Campaign to End Statelessness.

Clementine Nkweta Salami, UNHCR's Director of UNHCR's Regional Bureau for East Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes Region, said last week, 'civil and birth registration is essential to prevent statelessness.'

ICGLR members include; Sudan, Rwanda, Kenya, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and South Sudan, CAR, Zambia, Angola,Tanzania and Burundi.
