  • Fresh caution over violations, reckless road use #rwanda #RwOT

    While reflecting on the security situation in the past week, Rwanda National Police (RNP) spokesperson, CP John Bosco Kabera explained that most of the road accidents registered during this pandemic period occurs in the evening hours, when motorists and people in general, are racing against time.

    'Majority of the fatal accidents registered last week happened between 5pm and 9pm. Some of them were due to speeding to beat time because someone did not manage well their time. Others were involved because they were driving under the influence of alcohol or just rush driving,' CP Kabera said.

    Recent data by the Traffic and Road Safety department, show that in 1,826 road accidents that happened from March to August this year, 744 of them happened during an hour to the prohibited movement time.

    This means that 40.7percent of the accidents happened in one hour against 59.3percent that occurred in more than 10 hours.

    This, according to CP Kabera, indicates that reckless driving is still high when people are under pressure to be where they need to be before prohibited movement time, which he discouraged and advised on 'proper planning and time management.'

    He urged the public to plan and respect time, and to avoid anything that could result into an accident.

    'We remind everyone to look back and remember the messages we gave them during Gerayo Amahoro campaign.'

    When you drink do not drive, do not use a phone when driving, riding or crossing the road; always be extra attentive when on road because any reckless and irresponsible action can lead to a fatal accident, so use the road in harmony with every other road user,' CP Kabera added.

    On respecting COVID-19 prevention measures, he said that the vast majority comply.

    'It is not understandable how after six months, some people still can’t properly wear a mask, some are still found in bars, which are supposed to be closed, and other cases of varied violations,' he wondered.

    He warned bar owners against violations including those who relocate them into their respective homes, which equally exposes their own families to the pandemic.

    He further advised the youth to 'do better on compliance' noting that they dominate the numbers of violators.

    As of Sunday, September 20, Rwanda had 4,711 cases of Coronavirus, with 2,961 recoveries.

  • COVID-19: Another death, 11 new cases #rwanda #RwOT

    On the same day, the country recorded 12 new recoveries bringing the number of recoveries to 2973.

    Of the new cases, 7 were detected in Kigali among contacts of previously confirmed cases, while Nyamagabe district in Southern Province also confirmed four new cases.

    The latest results were obtained from 1,448 sample tests conducted in a single day, making the number of tests taken by the country to reach 477,379.

    So far, in total, the country has 4,722 confirmed cases, of which 1,722 are still active cases.

    Rwandans are required to continue complying with government regulations, especially with frequent washing of hands and water and soap, wearing masks when leaving home or in public.

  • Surrendered Rebels Loot Market 50Km North Of Goma #rwanda #RwOT

    Several shops have been looted by an army of over 500 rebels formerly aligned to the Nduma Defense of Congo—Renovated, a militia that operates in the eastern Democratic Republic. These fighters had voluntarily surrendered but have been abandoned and claim they are hungry.

    The looting took place on Sunday at Kabaya Market in 50km North of Goma in Rutshuru region- residents are now living in a lot of fear and panic suspecting anything worse may happen.

    According to provincial deputy Élie Nzaghani these fighters were not taken care of by the authorities and fell back on the population. They had previously surrendered to government forces but their welfare is not catered for.

    'We have seen that those who have responded favourably to the Head of State's call for the pacification of the country are unfortunately abandoned. They systematically looted the property of the population in the middle of the Kabaya market. There were even injuries. Imagine more than 500 rebels that are abandoned like this by the central government. And we wonder, what is the real plan to pacify the East when the people who have made a good decision to leave the bush are instead abandoned, 'wondered Nzaghani.

    Last August, more than 500 NDC-R militiamen loyal to Gilbert Bwira surrendered to authorities in Masisi following clashes with fighters loyal to Guidon Shimiray in Walikale region. And they were taken to the Rumagabo military camp to be quartered there. The fighters also handed over 90 weapons.

    Since then, the provincial government of North Kivu has assisted them twice with food and non-food items. Several political and civil society activists have since denounced the poor conditions in which these former rebels live.

    'There are those who say that it has become a business for some Congolese officers. These former rebels have to be handled correctly. We fear that these people will return to the bush. Even those who are still in the forest will lag behind simply because their colleagues are not taken care of. We therefore call on the government of Kinshasa, which must take care,' said Nzaghani.

    What is this Group Nduma Defense of Congo?

    NDC-R was created by a former Nduma Defense of Congo deputy Guidon in September 2014. In January 2015 group expanded into Lubero Territory. In December 2015 they captured FDLR bases in Mumo and Rushiye. On 25 December 2018 NDC-R attacked CNRD in Faringa.

    On 7 June 2019, the Office of the Military Prosecutor of North Kivu issued a warrant for Guidon's arrest, however Congolese authorities have not acted on it. On 30 October 2019 NDC-R attacked CMC alliance capturing Katsiru, Kiyeye, Kitunda, Maziza, JTN, Kayangare and Mbuhi villages in Rutshuru Territory. On 7 November group has regained control over Mweso, major economic crossroads in Masisi Territory. Its headquarters are located in Pinga, Walikale Territory.

    The UN stabilisation Mission in Congo (MONUSCO) evacuates victims of the battle between the two factions of the NDC-R for the control of Pinga, 21 July 2020. On 8 July 2020, the NDC-R split in two factions, one loyal to Guidon and the other led by Gilbert Bwira Shuo, former deputy commander of the NDC-R.

    Kylian Mbappe one of the world's best forwards is highly expected to move to Liverpool. The French star will be looking to add European Championship glory to the 2018 World Cup triumph, but the 21-year-old could also be making waves at club level.

    Mbappe has previously said of Liverpool, 'the guys are focused, they play games every three days and they win, they win, they win. They've lost zero games. When you watch you think everything's easy but that's not easy. They're like a machine, they've found a rhythm and are like 'we play again, we play again'.'

    However, recent reports from France suggest that Mbappe has told PSG he wants to leave next summer — and L'Equipe reports that Liverpool and Real will be battling for his signature.

    Given Liverpool have recently made a lucrative switch to Nike — who also sponsor Mbappe — a mega-deal isn't out of the question.

    Tottenham have signed Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid, along with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart and Matt Doherty. Dele Alli's future at club is in doubt, however.

    Champions Liverpool have signed one of the best midfielders in the world in Thiago Alcantara, with the Spain international arriving in a deal that could be worth up to £25m from Bayern Munich.

    Diogo Jota has also joined from Wolves. Arsenal have secured Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's future after signing Willian and Gabriel Magalhaes, while goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson has joined following Emiliano Martinez's departure.

    Chelsea have confirmed the £90m arrival of Kai Havertz, having previously signed Thiago Silva, Malang Sarr, Ben Chilwell, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech — with goalkeeper Edouard Mendy expected to follow this week.

    Meanwhile, Manchester United have signed Donny van de Beek but are struggling to sign top target Jadon Sancho.
