On Friday, the U.S. Army announced the consolidation of U.S. Army Europe and U.S. Army Africa into a new command, U.S. Army Europe and Africa (USAREURAF).

This new command will be the Army service component command for both U.S. Africa Command and U.S. European Command. Recently promoted Gen. Christopher G. Cavoli will be the commander of USAREUR-AF. 

'U.S. Africa Command welcomes the news that the U.S. Army has consolidated U.S. Army Africa and U.S. Army Europe into a single 4-star led command while still retaining a General Officer-led deployable headquarters that will wake up every day focusing on Africa,' said U.S. Army Gen. Stephen Townsend, commander of U.S. Africa Command. 'This dual-hatted component model is consistent with our other service components supporting U.S. Africa Command and U.S. European Command and is a proven model for success.'

Under this structure, U.S. Army Africa/Southern European Task Force is re-designated as the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF) and its two-star commanding general, U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Andrew Rohling, will also serve as USAREUR-AF's deputy commanding general for Africa. 

The consolidation of these two Army service component commands under one four-star commander will play a vital role in supporting missions across two interconnected theaters of operation.

'The organizational change enables U.S. Africa Command's ability to leverage unique and versatile joint force capabilities and address mutual security interests in Africa. While the structure of our Army component has changed, this is another step in our continued commitment to working with African partners on shared security interests,' said Townsend.

This consolidation also allows the headquarters to focus on strategic-level tasks, while the recently re-activated V Corps and re-designated SETAF-AF will focus on readiness and interoperability with allies and partners at the operational and tactical levels.   

SETAF-AF, based in Vicenza, Italy, is responsible for all Army operations and assets in Africa and Italy and will maintain direct coordination with U.S. Africa Command. With a rotational forward headquarters in Poznan, Poland, V Corps will be integral to the planning and synchronization of operations in Europe.

All units assigned to U.S. Army Africa will be reassigned to USAREUR-AF.

With five trophies and cash prizes, Team Rwanda has arrived in the country but will have to wait under quarantine before they are released. They have to undergo testing for covid-19 and wait for their status results.

For any arrivals, they have to adhere to government guidelines on prevention of Covid-19 pandemic.

In Cameroon where the athletes have been for the Grand Prix Chantal Biya International cycling competition, the West African country has registered a total of 22,583 cases of Covid-19, 435 deaths and 22,177 recovered.

Team Rwanda was part of ten national teams taking part in the 5-day cycling race which they won.

A Nigerian Physician Dr. Onyema Ogbuagbu, has been identified as a key figure in the research that led United States pharmaceutical company, Pfizer, to develop the first effective COVID-19 vaccine.

Speaking in an interview with ABC News on the vaccine, he said although doses will be unavailable to everyone at first, massive distribution was expected to take off in the first quarter of 2021.

Pfizer said it would launch a pilot in four states in the United States but there have been concerns as the vaccine needs to be stored at -94 degrees Fahrenheit (-70 degree Celsius), a challenge Ogbuagbu said would be overcome soon.

Ogbuagbu is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Infectious Disease Specialist at Yale School of Medicine, who graduated in 2003 from the University of Calabar with a degree in medicine.

Since the onset of November 2, 2020, the Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi has been meeting various sections of the country's constituents for consultations on how to unite the country.

For three weeks, the President of the Republic, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, personally received various personalities.

President Tshisekedi will give himself a reasonable time to compile the various suggestions that have been made to him before making decisions.

The latest hearings will be broadcast live and in full on public television.

In his 6-minute message to the nation on October 23, President Tshisekedi had promised to return, after these consultations, to the people to communicate the resulting decisions.

He announced that these consultations will lead to a Sacred Union for the Nation, the goal of which will be the overhaul of government action.

Warlord Tabo Ntaberi aka Cheka will spend the rest of his time on earth in a maximum prison after a final ruling by the Operational Military Court of North Kivu.

After nearly two years of hearings between the Operational Military Court of North Kivu and the former leader of the Ndima Defense of Congo (NDC) movement. He was sentenced on Monday, November 23, 2020 in Goma, capital of the North -Kivu.

The warlord Cheka was sentenced along with two of his co-defendants. Another was acquitted.

Colonel Nda Obal, first president of the Operational Military Court of North Kivu, pronounced the following sanction against Zitonda Habimana:

'With regard to common rights violations, 20 years of primary servitude for insurrectional movement and life imprisonment for war crimes and crimes against humanity by rape.'

For the defendant Lupambi Jean Claude, 'the Court answered yes, for attempted murder, attempted murder and assassination. And thus applying article 7 of the Penal Code, the Court condemned him first to 10 years of penal servitude for participation in an insurrectionary movement, to 15 years of main servitude for attempted murder and to 15 years of penal servitude. For murder. Applying Article 7 of the Military Penal Code, the court sentenced him to 15 years of penal servitude, taking into account his age '.

For Tabo Taberi alias Cheka, prosecuted for among other armed robbery, crimes against humanity for rape and recruitment of children, unsuccessful charges, the Court also condemned him for association for insurrectionary movements, crimes of war through murder, rape, and sexual slavery, destruction of property, bodily harm and enlistment of children.

Consequently, with regard to common law offenses and military offenses, the Court sentenced him to 15 years of penal servitude for association of criminals, 15 years of penal servitude for insurrectional movement, 20 years for murder, 20 years for assassination attempt.

For war crimes, the court convicted him of life imprisonment for murder, rape, sexual slavery, enlistment of children under the age of 15, looting, destruction of property and bodily integrity of persons.

Finally, the Court sentenced him to the single heaviest sentence, that of 'penal servitude for life'.

The Court nonetheless confirmed his detention and the other convicts, notably Zitonda to life imprisonment and Lukambo to 15 years of main penal servitude.

As for Ndoole Batechi, doctor of Tabo Tabeti Cheka, he was acquitted, for lack of evidence implicating him.

It was June 2017 that Tabo Ntaberi Cheka and his co-defendants surrendered to UN forces in Walikale, before his transfer to Kinshasa.
