The cost of getting a vote is high in the ongoing Uganda Presidential campaigns- It is now a matter of life and death.
Opposition candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has turned to bulletproof vest and military helmet as the only secure way to maneuver through the constituencies as he begs for votes under the National Unity Party.
'Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for the Lord is with me!' Candidate Kyagulanyi said on Thursday as he unveiled himself in a new style to his supporters, adding, and 'Today we resume our campaigns in Kibuku, Budaka and Manafwa! Ours is a mission to freedom.'
However, some critiques have lashed out at Kyagulanyi saying his new antiques have gone too far to soil the campaigns.
'How will our children be told that a time reached when a duly dominated presidential candidate had to dress like a military combatant, in order to go for his campaigns?' said David Lewis Rubongoya the Secretary General, National Unity Platform.
The military helmet and bulletproof vest have become a choice for Kyagulanyi after a nasty incidence on Tuesday; 'Our lives are in danger! After blocking us in Kayunga, on the way to Jinja, they blocked the main road & diverted us to a remote road. As if to set us into a 'kill spot', they shot the tyres of my car and directly into our windscreen, narrowly missing Hon Zaake and my driver.'
Kyagulanyi went on to spit fire at his rival incumbent Yoweri Museveni, 'Our crime is preaching a message of change. Our crime is campaigning in an election. Our crime is moving across the country. Our crime is being received by our people with love. And Gen. Museveni has determined that the penalty for this crime is torture, brutalisation and death.'

President Museveni said on Wednesday that the mantle of securing the future of Uganda is so great a task to play bets on. It is not a gamble. It is a matter which requires life-long commitment, unending sacrifice, and vast experience.

South Africa and Rwanda are once again working on mending fences and taking their cooperation to a cordial level.
The Rwandan Foreign Affairs Minister Vincent Biruta said on Thursday that he received at his office the High Commissioner-Designate Mandisi Bongani Mabuto Mpahlwa of the Republic of South Africa to Rwanda, for the presentation of copies of his credential letters.
'This was an occasion to discuss ways to further strengthen Rwanda-South Africa bilateral relations,' the Minister said without divulging more details.
Rwanda and South Africa have had a tense diplomatic past over disagreement on a range of issues.
For example, the South African embassy in Kigali has been unable to issue visas to Rwandans despite both countries reappointing envoys.
'We don't deny South Africans visas to travel to our country, but the reverse to South Africa is not the same,' President Paul Kagame said in previous engagements.
When the South African government appointed Grace Naledi Mandisa Pandor as Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, there was a feeling that the diplomatic impasse would be sorted quickly.
Rwanda has concerns about South Africa hosting the Rwanda National Congress (RNC) led by renegade Kayumba Nyamwasa â” a terrorist group that has an objective of overthrowing government in Kigali.
During an Extraordinary Summit of the African Union in Kigali in 2018, President Kagame and his South African counterpart President Cyril Ramaphosa ordered Foreign Affairs Ministers to work on normalization of relations between the two countries.
Rwanda is concerned about South Africa accepting distortions propagated by Rwandan detractors based in South Africa, and media platforms associated with them.
Towards the end of Pandor's tenure while serving as Home Affairs Minister in 2014, it is when much of the relations between the two countries collapsed based on recommendations from her ministry, leading to the expulsion of several Rwandan diplomats by Pretoria.

A team of conservationists have saved a mother elephant in Zimbabwe after it was spotted limping in pain as it traversed the plains with its calf.
Named Martha, the elephant, was seen with the looped piece of wire tightly cutting into her leg.
'There was a wire snare digging deep into her left front leg, crippling her and causing severe pain,' said Catherine Norton, 58, a conservationist.
'We had to clean the wound as it was infected, give her antibiotics and remove the snare with wire cutters.
'It only took her a few minutes to come around but the outcome could have been so much worse.' Norton said Martha's calf was still completely dependent on her, meaning if her mother had died she would likely die too.
Wire snares like the one found around Martha's leg are usually set to catch smaller animals around the neck, however large animals like elephants and rhinos can sometimes step into them.
Such snares are often set up along game trails and watering holes, according to the Lilongwe Wildlife Trust in Malawi, and are designed to catch specific animals.
Usually, they are suspended from small trees to trap an animal by the neck as it passes. The creature will then panic, pulling the wire tighter around its throat as it struggles to break free until it is asphyxiated and dies.
While bigger animals like elephants are strong enough to detach the snare from the tree or branch it is anchored to, this process often results in the wire being pulled more tightly around their leg.
The animal then is subject to constant painful constriction that causes swelling and infection. Animals in this state often die from infection or stop eating and starve.

Despite Rwanda being the first country in the world with a female majority in parliament, reaching 64% representation, there are still wider gaps in other sectors.
The Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion is concerned that there is less involvement of women in local government decision making positions.
'At local government level, we still notice a small number of women in decision making positions. For example, only 26,7% of mayors are women; 16.7% of vice mayors in charge of economic affairs are women and 45.2% members of the district councils are women,' said Bayisenge Jeannette, the Minister of Gender and Family Promotion.
Minister Bayisenge made the remarks on Thursday while speaking at the closing ceremony of 1st edition of the internship program for fresh female university graduates. The program aims at promoting gender equality in local government through women empowerment.
'From this program, we expect graduates to compete for leadership positions and join the decision-making processes at local and national levels. We recognize that this program constitutes a golden initiative that will raise young women interest in serving local government,' she said.
The minister said that through collaboration with UN-women Rwanda and RALGA, the Ministry will support the next group of 120 female fresh graduates to conduct professional internship in local government. The program is expected to start in January 2021 and end in June 2021.

Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente on Thursday afternoon launched the 6th Demographic & Health Survey an important tool for evidence-based policy making and planning.
The current edition 2019-2020 Demographic and Health Survey is expected to play a key role in availing up-to date and accurate information on demographic and health indicators.
'The Government of Rwanda is committed to double efforts in reinforcing key strategic interventions in the health sector as detailed in the National Strategy for Transformation (NST1). This will ensure that all indicators are on-track by 2024,' the Premier said.

SouthBridge Group, an innovative, pan-African financial advisory and investment firm, working with corporates, sovereigns and multinationals across the Continent, concluded two significant transactions in the Republic of Togo, today.
Sani Yaya, Togo's Minister of Finance, said that, 'We are delighted with the support provided by the Southbridge Group for the completion of these two transactions at the heart of the National Development Plan and the Government's Roadmap.
He noted that, 'The commitment and professionalism of Southbridge's team was key to the successful completion of these two transactions despite the health crisis. It is once again proof of the attractiveness of the Togolese economy.'
SouthBridge advised the Government of Togo to facilitate a strategic partnership with Olam International Limited, a global agri-business firm, headquartered and listed on the Singapore Exchange (SGX), and the Arise Special Economic Zone, an Olam subsidiary, jointly owned with the Africa Finance Corporation.
The State of Togo and Arise signed an initial agreement on July 8, 2020, which created an integrated industrial platform in order to attract investors and develop multi- sector industrial collaborations within the country including the production and processing of agricultural products, locally.
As per the agreement, this project will be developed by a private company, owned and operated by the State of Togo (35%) and Arise (65%) trading as Plateform Industrial Adétikopé SAS (PIA SAS).
The company will be considered as a 'zone developer' pursuant to Togolese Free Trade Zone laws. The total investment for the project is EUR200 million.
Additionally, the Togolese government sold 51% of Nouvelle Société Cotonnière du Togo (NSCT), to Olam, for EUR34.4 million. It includes EUR15.3 million for Olam's equity stake plus 51% of net working capital (â¬19.1 million). Therefore, Olam pays a 70% premium to the Togolese Republic for this acquisition.
Donald Kaberuka, Chairman and Managing Partner of SouthBridge Group, commented on these operations: 'they are a landmark for Togo and its partner Olam. It is a step change in the economic transformation of the country and its cotton/textile industry.'
