  • Gvt sets new prices for Fertilizers #rwanda #RwOT

    The crops that will be covered by the government in the matter of fertilizing in the 2021 A, B and C seasons are maize, beans, wheat, soybeans, rice, potatoes, cassava, bananas, vegetables, and fruits; while maize, wheat, and soybeans are the crops that will be needing added seed in those seasons.

    Farmers are asked to use Smart fertilizers program to identify the amount of product they need and to join ‘Twigire muhinzi’ group.

    Fertilizers traders should also use MOPA-based Smart Support technology, so as to buy fertilizers supported by the Government.

    Of the hybrid maize seeds grown in the highlands, the most expensive type is PAN691 which will be sold at Rwf 962the Kg and the cheapest will be RHMH1520 and RHMH1601 which will be sold at Rwf 453 the Kg.

    Hybrid seeds grown on mountains and in the valleys, the most expensive will be PN53 which will be sold Rwf 1547 the Kg, the lowest price will be RHM104, RHM1402, and RHM1407 which will be sold at Rwf 453 the Kg.

    OPV corn seeds will be sold at Rwf 295 the Kg. Soybeans are currently sold at Rwf 425 and Rwf 396 and wheat is currently sold at Rwf 346, Rwf 318, and Rwf 426 the Kg, respectively.

    In Regards to added fertilizers; Urée is set at Rwf 447, DAP is at Rwf 480, NPK 17:17:17 costs Rwf 603, TSP is at Rwf 523 while MOP costs Rwf 481.

    These directives, signed by the Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources, Dr. Gérardine Mukeshimana, stressed that anyone who is caught smuggling or misusing seeds and fertilizers will be punished.

    Only four companies have been so far allowed to import fertilizers from the country under the Nkunganire program and sell them through Agro-Processing Trust Corporation Ltd (APTC); these include Yara, ETAG Inputs, Rwanda Fertilizer Company, and Tubura.

    The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGRI) has set the prices for seeds and fertilizers to be implemented in the 2021A, B and C seasons.

  • COVID-19: Rwanda Confirms 41 New Cases, 26 recoveries #rwanda #RwOT

    According to the Ministry of Health, the cases were largely detected in controlled areas.
    Kigali: 22 (includes high-risk isolated cluster), Nyabihu: 8 (cluster of police station detainees); six more cases were identified in Nyamasheke: district and five others, in Rusizi district which is still under total lockdown.

    Of the total confirmed cases 664 are active cases, while 710 have recovered.
    Rwanda recorded the 4th COVID-19 victim, on Sunday July 12; an old man aged 78 years old.

    The government on Monday started inspection of churches to ascertain their readiness before reopening.

  • Minister calls for child abuse court cases to be held in public #rwanda #RwOT

    Minister Bayisenge made the remarks on Tuesday in response to family questions raised by MPs from the Political, and Gender Equality Commission in the country’s development.

    Among the demands of the MPs was to outline the existing measures to combat child sexual abuse that are still taking rampant.

    Statistics on the number of child sexual abuse allegations show that in 2016/17, Rwanda Investigation Bureau, RIB, received 2091 complaints, in 2017/18 it was 3060, and in 2018/19 it received 3512 complaints.

    Of the people prosecuted for these crimes, in 2018/2019 it was 3417, in 2017/18 they were 3001 and in 2016/2017 it was 2092 people.

    Minister Bayisenge informed the MPs that various measures have been taken including the enactment of penal code for the perpetrators of the crime, a campaign that requires everyone to report and denounce these crimes.

    She said the fact that child sex offenses are being tried in private is a serious obstacle, arguing that if the trial was held at the scene it would send a warning that others would be afraid to do the same.

    Minister Bayisenge also said that a special team had been set up by various agencies to study what could be done to address the issue of child sexual abuse, especially to prosecute the perpetrators.
